The way Joe managed game 7 last year, he makes me nervous. But I’m going to stay optimistic because faith is going to be the X factor tonight.

You do know who is managing in the other dugout?

Dusty is going to over-manage this game or freeze up like he did in 2003 and not slow the game down and the Cubs will win.

Playoff Joe and Playoff Dusty aren't as far off as I'd like. They definitely carpool in Joe's RV to the fishing trip.

Playoff Joe makes decisions that are logical and designed to get the best people in the game for every situation. I don't always agree, but I appreciate that approach and thought process.

Playoff Dusty makes decisions based on antiquated assumptions about what roles are supposed to be on a baseball team. They may end up working out but I will let Playoff Joe manage circles around Playoff Dusty any day.

this was the most predictable game thread ever in regards to posters and what they posted.

i still enjoyed reading it though, mostly

Eh; I think they're more like Two-Face's coin.

Correct, one side is functional and the other is burned beyond recognition and useless.

Uh, it's clearly not USELESS as it allows him to dispense his own twisted form of "just-I MEAN, YEAH, GOOD CALL, BRO.

yeah, that was pretty perfect.

I'm annoyed I can't find a gif or clip of George and Jerry's whole Two-Face exchange.

"She's a two-face."

"Like the Batman villain?!?"

"...if that HELPS..."

I don't get the concept of being super pessimistic for horsefeathers like this. Just be cocky af. You won't be any less disappointed if things don't turn out the way you'd otherwise want* and you get to do some crazy ass Contreras-esque chest pounding when they win.

*which won't happen. LET'S GO!

it is really too bad that all the extremely confident people in this thread haven't been able to watch any of the games so far.

the cubs can certainly win tonight, but they've been pretty handily outplayed in this series. strasburg and scherzer are nice, but they haven't pitched every inning. 8 runs in four games is terrible, plus we've made a million errors and edwards has set the game on fire twice.

the nats just have a much larger margin for error tonight. they're going to run out gio and scherzer and hope they can connect to doolittle in the eighth. if not, roark could throw an inning or two in there, too. lots of flexibility. something like gio for four, scherzer for three, doolittle for two is the ideal, but you could move all of these around quite a bit.

the cubs are desperately hoping no one besides hendricks, quintana, and davis pitch tonight. everyone loves starters out of the bullpen, but quintana just does not feel like a guy whose stuff will play up in this spot to me. he's going to get his shot, though, especially since joe will refuse to ride hendricks no matter how he looks. we've seen this show before. it wouldn't surprise me if we ended up trying to also squeeze out a matchup inning against the middle of the lineup at some point, just going with a new pitcher for each guy.

i am skeptical of our chances to win this game if it is low-scoring and all on the pitchers being near-perfect again. we will need to dong, and hard.

How have we been handily outplayed in this series?

It's a coping mechanism. Personally, if I set my standards lower for this sort of thing then I have found I actually get over it much, much, MUCH quicker. And if I'm "wrong," hey, great! I'm just as pumped and thrilled and overjoyed as if I had been all bravado and cockiness, which definitely leaves me in a much worse mood for a while if things do go bad.

I mean, I try to not just be a total Doom Boner (thought not always successfully) and more, like, "OK, here's how it seems like this COULD go wrong."

Haven't you been counting? The Nationals have had two legitimately good offensive innings in this series. Two!! How are we supposed to compete with that??

I'm on team optimism but how many have we had? 2 run inning in Game 1, 2 run inning (on HR) in game 2, then a bunch of single run innings.
