It just hit me how lucky we are that Dusty had 2 of their 3 worst hitters bating 1-2. Entirely because "fast" and "veteran". I can't imagine Wade finishes off that 9th facing Murphy-Rendon-Harper or something similar, instead of Turner-Werth-Harper.

They even had Harper 2 and Rendon 3 for the first three games of the series and switched to this lineup for Games 4 and 5 because they were more productive (against garbage teams).

I'll give Dusty a pass for Turner because pretty much every manager in the bigs would bat him first, but moving Werth to the two spot was inexcusable. Love that we only had to face one of their big 4 in the ninth instead of two.

I'm as invested in the Cubs as the next guy due to my family ties, but I've lived in Kansas City for 6 baseball seasons now. I love MLB, so I go to a lot of Royals games. It's not hard to get invested in a team as an adult, especially when familiar faces stick around for many years.

The Royals winning the pennant and then the next year the World Series was awesome, but it's nothing like how it felt when the Cubs won.

It also helps when you have good friends who are lifelong fans of the team. I was ecstatic for them when the Royals won and they were for me when the Cubs won. I've even gone to Royals and Cubs playoff games with the same friends to experience it together.

I first came to NYC at age 18 and have been here for more than half my life. I cannot fathom the concept of becoming an actually passionate fan of a team as an adult. Root root root for the home team all you want, but to care? That's mental.

There is probably quite a difference to how New York fans treated you as a Cubs fan and how Royals fans treated me as a Cubs fan. This is definitely apples to oranges here.

as someone who has tried unsuccessfully to fool themselves into liking the blackhawks since they got really horsefeathering good, i agree that adults who develop allegiances to new teams are weirdos.

plus there's nothing wrong with hitting turner there. he's a good hitter and a great baserunner.

Nope. I'm friends with a bunch of mets/yankees fans. I've been to non-Cubs games and ostensibly "cheered" for them and I've brought many to wrigley field where they rooted for the Cubs. Our circle of friends includes Pit, Bos, Phi, KC, Min and Bal fans. And we're all actually fans of the teams we liked as kids.

Yeah, this idea that nobody can actually be a fan of the Nats if they're not a kid is pretty hilariously petty. It was an area without a baseball team for a while, but where people really wanted a baseball team, so they embraced it when they got one. I have no idea why this would seem odd to anyone.

I didn't become a Cubs fan until I was 18. Is that weird?

American soccer fans everywhere say hi.

Every time somebody reminds me that the US has a professional soccer league it surprises me.

I adopted the Blue Jackets after moving to Columbus. I didn't really have a strong allegiance to a hockey team (at least not since high school).

It helps if you have kids. My son and nephews are into hockey, so I take them to Ducks games, and I'm at the point where I root for the Ducks about as much as the Blackhawks.

Yeah, I'd say in the dozen or so games I've been to at Nats Park I see significantly more kids there than I do at most of the Cubs games I've been to (which is not to say there's not often a lot of kids at Wrigley). Just going with my own small sample size, there seems to be more younger kids and grandparent-types at Nats games than when I've been to Wrigley or places like PNC or Camden or Miller Park; those latter places (especially Wrigley) seem MUCH heavier people who look to be in their 20's and 30's than the Nats games.

In all fairness Columbus has a pretty good arena. I was there for their first ever preseason and regular season games, which were against the Blackhawks. Sorry you live in Columbus, I hated living there.

I don't hate it. It's a nice balance of the restaurants, sports and entertainment a city gives you, while being extremely affordable

I don't know how that causes him to lose respect. It's just kinda weird for someone who cares that much to not be glued to the TV immediately. But whatever.

It was mostly an active decision; I was just too damn anxious by the time the game rolled around, so I knew I wasn't going to be watching all or most of the game unless the Cubs took and held a decent early lead or Hendricks looked amazing. Too nervous.

I think a huge part of it are TBS' horrible, horrible announcers. It's some kind of Pavlovian response where as soon as I hear their voices I think the worst is going to happen.

I played the superstition game with this one as well. I watched Silence of the Lambs and the news but was checking in constantly but making sure not watch during any action because that messed with the juju lol. The Cubs did good things when I didn't watch and bad things when I did watch so I rolled with that through about the 6th inning when Monty got in trouble and my system had been debunked.

I knew this was going to be a crazy ass game so I paced myself. Thankfully it worked out in the end.

I decided to play poker at a casino while the game was going on, so I wasn't losing my mind at every pitch. After the 2nd inning, I was only glancing every now and again, and missed most of the 5th inning non-sense apart from the passed ball...because I had pocket 8s on an 88329 board against AA and 99. Totally absurd. I did have to sit out for the bottom of the 9th, tho. Not a bad night.

What a gin card on the river

I know, but the guy really had no business getting there, even though it was limit. Capped preflop, flop, and turn 3 way. I was on the button, AA on the SB, 99 on the BB. Myself and the SB are on the TAG side. SB managed to fold on the river. I was convinced that one of the other two hands had a set of 3s or 2s, and there is a MASSIVE bad beat jackpot that's close to 600k, so everyone was paying close attention.

The fervor over Ohio State was pretty annoying. I'd be out on a Saturday and people would ask why I am not wearing Scarlet and Gray. It was like some sort of cult.

I went to college with a lot of Ohio State fans and they're pretty much the reason OSU is the only Big Ten school I don't root for.
