Obviously, before the meetings(if we even have them) but the Marlins sign Volquez to 2/22. This is a relatively large contract for them, so I guess they're acting as if they're contending this year.....

And wow, not too many straight swaps of minor leaguers......Jackson has lost some luster and the Braves need hitting prospects, so it makes sense. Candelario makes soooo much sense for them.

They still remain high on Soler too. Soler+Candelario for Vizcaino+Soroka+Allard

According to Dayn Perry, Rick Hahn has changed his stance and has said that all 29 teams are potential trading partners.

Sorry. No take-backsies!

Outside of Quintana, I don't think anyone on that team would even be reasonable to try to obtain. Sale is going to cost the moon, and I would rather not see Baez, Schwarber, Almora, and others traded in the same deal for a single player.

Is there a reason to believe Quintana would be cheaper to trade for than Sale?

Maybe it is just me, but I thought name recognition would be part of it. I am well aware that Quintana performed just as well as Sale did this year. He is proving to be a fantastic pitcher who is woefully underpaid at this point in his career. Maybe it is just wishful thinking :)

I'm not a huge fan...but whatever. Meh.

Injury concerns? Acquisition cost concerns? Or both?

Also, going after Duffy, Davis, and Cain is savvy. I'd suspect it'd probably cost a lot, but I like that idea.

For me, both. Especially when Jansen is out there in free agency.

He's fine. Just that his peripherals are nothing to write home about. I was on this soapbox the last time his name came up during the season.

I really don't. It would basically drain all our assets and none are controlled after this season. The Cubs are in a really good position to compete for a title next year already, so I'd rather position better for the years after.

In the short term however, it appears they can pull the trigger on Sale and McCutchen and sign Chapman or Jansen and somehow not lose Trea Turner.

I actually welcome this if they manage to pull it off. Would be fun to have everyone focus on another team in the league, and then watch the Cubs earn back all the love.
