I moved this here.

Davis and Miller would be an interesting and hopefully low-cost way to play the volume game with the pitching staff. Davis/Rondon/Strop/Edwards has a solid chance of giving you 3 good relievers, and Miller + Montgomery probably stands a decent chance of netting you a quality SP.

On the other hand, the Dodgers rotation and Giants bullpen from last year seem poignant examples of what could go wrong.

EDIT: Miller would be yet another example of the Cubs strongly preferring durability from their SP targets.

Thanks for moving this. I realized shortly after I posted. I'm kinda mixed if this is the direction we go in. I like them both but Miller has struggled and davis something just nags me about him

Oh it looks like the Miller rumor might be bogus. The Sean Sears guy isn't at all connected, and Mooney disavowed the tweet of someone claiming he reported the connection.

I'd have more interest in the recently non-tendered Rubby de la Rosa anyways.

Maybe I'm weird, but I'd still give up a decent amount for Miller. Stuff's still good and he's been healthy. Given the team control and health history, he's much more attractive to me than guys like Corbin and Bradley from that roster.

Wilson Ramos to the Rays on a 2 year deal.

That's a good move for them. Should be able to flip him next year and if he can come back soon enough this year and be the player he was in 2016 and they decide to keep everyone I could see them being in the WC hunt.

Pomerantz and Bucholtz might be available any interest?

I'd rather just bring Hammel back or take injury risk signings on like Tyson Ross and Brett Anderson for only money than give up any trade chips for either of those two.

If you want to try and connect some dots to Soler-Davis being nearly done this could be it, Rangers were apparently interested in Georgie as a RHH OF/DH. They could be bringing Gomez back now because they've been told Soler is in another trade.

Well the Nats apparently only wanted Sale and are now no longer interested in acquiring a SP. Turning focus to closer, center field, and possibly a SS.

Their 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th SP on their depth chart are Joe Ross, A.J. Cole, Reynaldo Lopez, and Lucas Giolito.

That's nice depth to deal from. Any chance the Cubs try and deal for one of them while dangling Almora or Baez or both?

Gomez back to the Rangers for 1/11.5.

UGH

Yeah, I would have preferred this risk over Jay.

yes, but I imagine he wants a guaranteed starting role to rebuild his value.

I would've been fine guaranteeing him CF for as long as he didn't play his way out of it.

Agreed. Almora is just a guy.

Also Gomez is bad and crazy

Seems weird coming from you as you seem as willing as anyone to look at arbitrary endpoints/trends on guys and Gomez really only had a really bad 85 games in Houston this year, but otherwise was great in 2013, great in 2014, very good in 2015, and very good to great in his stint with the Rangers in 2016.

Also he seems like a fun kind of crazy
