Carrasco done for the year after getting his hand broken by a line drive today.

Did he try to catch it?

No idea. I just got the notification since he's on my fantasy team.

Nope, his motion had him facing first base on a line drive headed straight for his hip, so his instinct was to absorb it instead of moving his arm.

wtf....Francona took like half an hour to even leave the dugout. Seems like most of the time the manager is racing the trainer out to an injury.

Maybe he was waiting for his scooter to charge.

Mets fans on that board are all like:

'OMG we are so unlucky, I can't believe the team that was built completely on young pitching is having so many injury problems'

Yeah, it's quite funny. "Oh man, what bad luck we've had that all of these perpetually injured players got injured again!"

And then some of them are like, "Oh well. Shut it down for this year and then get healthy for next year." And they are drawing up their lineups for next year and including guys like David Wright, who has a degenerative back issue, and d'Arnaud, whose shoulder is fucked beyond repair. Oh and then there is that rotation with a bunch of perpetually injured pitchers, with both elbow and shoulder issues. Yeah, those are usually the types of guys that get healthy for the next year. And they're even including Wheeler, who hasn't even thrown in, like, 4 years.

Every time I've visited that board, there's been one or two people trying to explain it to them and it never, ever seems to penetrate. It's been like that for several years. And you would think the fanbase of Isringhausen/Pulsipher/Wilson or whatever it was would remember.

How is that "no thing," Dusty? You stupid horsefeathering buffoon

Eddie Matz, ESPN Senior Writer. Nats skipper Dusty Baker said that Stephen Strasburg felt some discomfort during his bullpen session on Monday, which caused him to stop early, throwing 30-31 pitches instead of 35 as planned. "It's no thing," said Baker, downplaying the discomfort. Before today's Game 4, Strasburg was throwing off flat ground in the outfield.

Seriously, I would love to play a Dusty team full of quality young pitchers in the NLCS. We already know how that ends.

Tyson Ross to have surgery to hopefully prevent Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. He's out 3-6 months after not pitching at all this year. Apparently throwing 50% sliders isn't a good idea for a starter.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/ct-tommy-john-surgery-alternative-20170112-story.html

Missouri doctor thinks he's found a new and better alternative to Tommy John surgery that can shorten the recovery time needed for pitchers who need to undergo ligament repairs.

"It has that potential to be big," orthopedic surgeon George Paletta told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in a story published Thursday.

Paletta performed the procedure on former Cardinals reliever Seth Maness in August and already, Maness is feeling well enough to practice his pitches. And he has no doubt he'll be ready for Opening Day.

"You go from looking at missing a whole season [with Tommy John surgery] to possibly being back at the start of the year [with the new procedure]," he told the Post-Dispatch. "That's a big relief."

Until primary repair procedures are performed more often, the success rate will remain unknown Although Paletta said, of the 50 procedures he's performed, all have been successful, including the 32 primary repairs he's done on high school and college pitchers.

In the major leagues, however, Maness is a trailblazer. Should his surgery, which shortens recovery time by half, prove successful, could become the primary procedure to address UCL failures at baseball's highest levels.
