The new plan is for Zack Wheeler to take two turns in the rotation and throw 450 innings this year.

And up Cespedes HR total to 300 on the year

Over at MetsRefugees...

Lester arrieta kendricks lackey 30+ starts 200 innings in their sleep

But we have 7 young studs and have injury after injury lol

Hehehehehe.

At least they got a world series appearance out of it. Thats more than we got when we stupidly built a team around young pitchers.

Haha I'm reading more now. I don't know why it gives me so much joy to watch them be incredulous over their pitcher's injuries. I think its some combo of:

-Having experienced this ourselves in the early/mid 2000's, its sort of fun watching some other team's fans deal with it

-The fact that they don't seem to get why this is not some sort of terrible fluky thing and why the Cubs starters in comparison have been healthy. Yes both teams have been extremes in opposite directions but its not a complete fluke the Cubs starters have been healthier than average and the Mets more injured than average.

Wasn't sure where to share this but hopefully this is just a byproduct of the Cardinals dumb stadium breaking StatCast.

Supposedly Lester's velocity was down his first start as well. Cubs played into November last year and expect to be playing in October/November again, I could definitely see the coaching staff trying to get the pitchers to dial it back a bit in the early part of the season.

The part I don't like is him getting 1st pitch strikes less than half the time last night.

I liked the breaking ball command though.

Even without the enormous blinking PitchFX/Statcast disclaimer, trying to read the tea leaves into single game numbers on velocity/movement/release point/etc is my least favorite form of analysis. I was really disappointed when I saw Sullivan wrote about Arrieta and then found out it was that stuff.

It's only weird because it's our guy. Velocity readings are up everywhere except on balls he threw. I'm not super concerned since the stuff was still good and the Cardinals were shutdown but to pretend it's not at least a red flag is weird.

That writeup says nothing different than anything else that's out there which is basically :dontknow:

It's one start so I'm not panicking at all, but I am more concerned over the drastically lower arm slot than the velocity.

Apparently Harvey just left the game for the Mets. No idea what the injury is.

Pull his left hammy while running over to cover first on a grounder. Not sure of the severity yet.

Colorado pitcher Jon Gray leaves the game at the start of the 4th after throwing 4 straight pitches out of the zone awkwardly. Trainer comes out to discuss and he leaves the game. He may have strained something earlier in the game making a defensive play.

The same pitcher who some believed the Cubs should have taken in the draft instead of some kid named Bryant.

Cespedes is doing his part.

Rich Hill came off the DL today but then left the game after 3 innings because of the same blister issue.

I'm glad he at least got his payday.

JA Happ to the DL, having an MRI on his elbow. Sounds like it could be bad. Would love to figure out a way to get Stroman when they become sellers Edited by Cubswin11
