So when Javy comes back from his head issue due to the hit by pitch last week, will he become our primary second baseman? Would Zobrist have more playing time in the outfield with Soler?

I assume just a Soler/Sczcur sorta platoon

Now I will just have to make do with the rest of this amazing team stomping all over everyone else.

...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnd I've accepted it.

Pretty much.

Hate to lose one of our injury safety nets that early, though.

Jesse Rogers on the radio is making it seem that it's not a given he will be ready opening day next year.

jesse rogers is an idiot then.

a football player would probably be ready by opening day next year.

So Soler, Fowler and Montero get some extra PT and Szczur doesn't get DFA. Probably a net loss of about 1 WAR if Soler doesn't take off.Sucks, but that's why they built in the depth.

Yep. Just have to hope for no more major injuries.

why would that be your assumption over soler just being our primary LF?

I was going by games played in the outfield in their career. From what I could tell, Zobrist has played 111 games in LF while Soler has 0. Granted, Soler has been in the league for one season more or less, but I figured that's what they would do. Kyle mentioned the Sczcur/Soler platoon, too, which I could see happening.

Zobrist was at least half-promised that he'd have a consistent position, it's more likely that Baez goes to LF for an extended stretch than Zobrist.

Ah, I see. Got it!

This is plenty enough bad luck to make up for whatever good fortune we had last year. The injury gods owe it to us to leave us alone now.

I wonder if this have any longer term impact on whether Schwarber is used more as a Catcher to try to avoid this type of scenario in the future. Yes, you can call it a freak injury, but it isn't the first time he has put himself in an awkward position going after a ball in the outfield.

Hopefully this doesn't bum out the rest of the team today ... still a game to play here folks

It's the opposite; this will drive them to never show mercy ever again.

i think if it has any impact on his future as a catcher it would be negative

Yeah, he shredded his knee and loses a full year of potential reps, that's far more damaging to his defensive future than a risk of another freak collision. Schwarber didn't do anything wrong, in big outfields that stuff is more prone to happen even with 3 fleet of foot guys out there.

That's what I would think. I would be surprised if he catches another game in the big leagues. I think it's only a matter of time before we trade Schwarber to the AL.
