Not to latch onto just one relatively small part of your comment….but in your scenario above Nico would be worth 14.5 wins over five years for $125mm. That’s $8.6mm/WAR and I would pay that without hesitation.

I feel like this is still an inaccurate analogy. Like, obviously yelling at a kid in McDonalds for poorly making your cheeseburger would be prick behavior. But maybe you would ask to speak to a manager so you can voice your displeasure, and perhaps hope that the manager would somehow take action to encourage better cheeseburger-making effort from the kid in the future. That situation may hurt the kids feelings, but you the consumer have what I think is a valid right to good service…at least insofar as it can be controlled by the employee. If people are booing Tucker for not hitting more homers, that’s stupid. Obviously he wants to hit well and booing won’t help that. But if he’s being booed for multiple times not running out grounders because he’s frustrated and annoyed…then that feels kind of valid, I think? The consumer / fan has paid good money for the product they’re getting and voicing displeasure at a repeated lack of effort feels justified. But I get it’s a fine line between that and meatball.

Yeah that was Duke Silver. That was the year the Brewers went absolutely supernova the last month of the season and the cubs “offense broke” in Theo’s words and they lost the division the last week of the season. Duke had been saying for like 3 months there was no way the Brewers would catch the Cubs and when they finally did IMB made a sarcastic comment about it and Duke had a nuclear meltdown, lol. Led to his remark that IMB was a whiney bitch (that IMB had quoted in his signature for years after that). I think he quit the board shortly after that. Thinking of it now, IMB might lead the board in poster kills…Duke, Tom, Kyle. It’s probably him or Mojo, lol.

This isn’t that Sentensi or whatever dude from 6 or 7 years ago, is it? The one who got booted after dropping an F slur? Maybe it’s just the similar-ish name making me think that, but he also had a penchant for all caps rants if I remember correctly.

Kind of an aside to this idea…but at this point is there any realistic scenario where Shota underperforms enough in 2025 that the Cubs don’t pick up the remainder of his contract at 3/$54m after this season, but he’s still good enough where he would then pass on his 1/$15m player option? Seems like an extremely narrow set of circumstances for that to make sense to both sides.
