Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has followed the Cubs closely but we rank 27/30 in terms of WAR for drafted players since 2015.  Some of this is likely because we drafted lower from 2016-2021.  Some of it is we don't get small market comp picks.  But sad to see how poorly we've done.  Theo will always be considered a success because he got us what we wanted, but I can't help but also feel a bit disappointed (and to be clear disappointed doesnt mean I think he failed by any means) which makes me feel guilty because I recognize that he also oversaw the most successful run in franchise history.  We thought we were getting an Andrew Friedman type guy that would have waves and waves of prospects coming to Wrigley, but we actually had one wave and then development fell off a cliff.

Folks on Twitter already caught this but Hoerner and Happ alone have combined for about 20 fWAR, so even if that's meant to be a per-draft number it seems fishy.  I wouldn't be at all shocked that even if the numbers are accurate the Cubs do not rank well though.

yeah whoops.  now my comments will look stupid if they are actually in the top half, but like you said I wouldnt be surprised if they still rank poorly

They corrected themselves to say it was 2016-2023…which is still wrong since Nico has 8.4 fWAR (and the Mets and Braves numbers are wrong based on Pete Alonso and Spencer Strider alone).

And now they’ve deleted both tweets.

I remember being so disappointed that the draft cap started right after Theo came from Boston. We never got to use the big market money to buy prospects like Boston did. Imagine if we had been able to.

We were one of the pioneers of the strategy in the 90s

Seems very odd to trade for a catcher right now even if this is just a minor move with no plans to put him on the big league roster.  Currently 3 catchers on the roster, so even if you trade one at the deadline, there is no need for a 3rd catcher.  Perhaps they trade Gomes and have Amaya start with Barnhart backing up and Higgins in Iowa as depth.

All the catchers belong to us. Just fill the entire roster with catchers.

Higgins does not appear to have been on the 40 man so it's possible this is just as much about Iowa roster logistics as anything happening in Chicago.

Disagree, this is clearly Jed signaling his intent to be a buyer.  Looking forward to Ohtani's first AB at Wrigley as a Cub.

There's an Arrested Development subplot where Jed heard Higgins was practicing his Japanese for career reasons and decided he was a must have addition to lure Ohtani.

Magnetic draw? I haven't stepped into Wrigley in almost 5 years at this point. Why would I give those ghouls my money for a piss poor on field product?

I am not going to read that, but I will still say that hemorrhaging season ticket waitlist spots since about 2018 suggests otherwise.

Does anyone know what the waitlist is currently at?

There is a huge disparity between week night and weekends. They can still draw the tourists and out of towners,

No one is disputing that. Which source of revenue is more predictable and desirable?

I guess my point is that the Tribune article can be true and the season ticket holder is not coming to Wrigley for the ambiance. So not necessarily related points.
