when we get in this year, theo will be at 3 playoff years and 3 non playoff years.

Still time to go 0-for-2 and match Jim Hendry's 3-for-8.

Eh, there's a slight difference in those 3-8's, even if it happens. Which it won't.

Yeah, there was an extra team in our division. Hendry's was more impressive.

Yeah, but I wasn't gonna hold Theo needing a second wild-card in one of them against him, even though all three of Hendry's were division titles.

And Kyle,

Don't forget to mention that unless the Cubs win, what is it, 89? games this year, Theo is still under .500 for his cumulative record with the Cubs

Does that include playoffs? I don't wanna short him 5 games over .500 from last year.

With Willy back and the offense needing a boost, if Joe is willing to punt some defense early in games, I really would like to see some variation of the following offense (not lineup order 1-8 just positions) vs RHP;

C: Avila

3B: Bryant

SS: Javy

2B: Zobrist/Seal Boy

1B: Rizzo

LF: Happ/Jay/Schwarber/Zobrist/Willy

CF: Happ/Jay

RF: Willy/Zobrist/Happ

Basically no more starts for Heyward and use him as a defensive replacement and keep Bryant at 3B since Seal Boy can't play there for horsefeathers.

It sounds like they aren't ready to put Willy in full games yet. They activated him because there was no where to rehab and they could use his bat for PH. But yes i am fine with this once he starts and if the offense hasnt gotten their horsefeathers together.

Why would you want to bench Heyward but keep Jon Jay in the mix? Jay has marginally better offensive numbers, but Heyward is much better at every other aspect of the game. Jay needs to go back his bench role where he had success, because using him as a nearly everyday starter isn't exactly producing stellar results. I get it that Heyward still sucks offensively, but he is easily a better all-around option than Jay.

I actually really like Jesse Rogers' suggestion for a Cubs lineup moving forward (other than the 6 hitter)

Bryant

Zobrist

Rizzo

Contreras

Baez

Heyward

Jay/Almora

Pitcher

Happ/Schwarber

Why would you have a slugger bat 9th? That doesn't make much sense.

Yep. Flop 6 and 9 and give Almora 75% of the starts andI like it a lot.

Willson is starting tonight, per Maddon...I assume at catcher, but line up isn't out yet. It's going to take him a little bit to work back up to his normal workload, so I'm fine with him and Avila staying mostly behind the plate...if we need offense late, then pinch hit Avila and move Contreras to a corner OF.

I'd be fine putting Almora and Schwarber into a straight platoon the rest of the year, but the idea of putting Schwarber and Happ next to someone not named Heyward scares me.

Don't care too much about where everyone hits, but I'd go something like this:

vs Righty/Lefty:

C: Contreras/Contreras

1B: Rizzo/Rizzo

2B: Zobrist/LaStella

3B: KB/KB

SS: Baez/Baez

LF: Schwarber/Happ

CF: Happ/Almora

RF: Heyward/Zobrist

Give Avila an occasional start, sprinkle Jay in across the outfield every couple days.

I'm very wary about how much Russell can contribute the rest of the year TBH. If his range isnt there because of pain or the risk of reinjuring the foot, then he can't play SS. Plus coming back after 7 weeks off and no rehab (besides the game he played when he reinjured himself) I expect a rusty bat.

But I'm happy to be pleasantly surprised.

It's not like people will expect him to come back after missing most of the season and be a game changing bat in the line up. Oh, wait
