So, would everybody here be able to withhold the meatballery if we went 43 innings without scoring?

Oh hell no.

I find it odd that anyone would think getting worked up over a team not scoring at all for just shy of FIVE COMPLETE GAMES would be "meatballery." I mean, there's meatballin', and then there's recognizing that that would be a flat out horrendous stretch of offense, especially for a team like the Cubs.

This is what the Royals are doing. They haven't scored since the 2nd inning on Thursday. I suppose no take would be too hot, short of a Bryzzo demotion or something, if we ever experienced that.

Yes, I know that's what the Royals have been doing. You were asking if people could "withhold the meatballery" if the Cubs had done the same thing.

Yeah meatballery would not be flipping out about a stretch of offense that bad. Meatballery would be suggesting that we fire Joe, gut the team and start over because the current group is toast.

It's that showboat Baezs fault! #meatball

The only thing their fanbase should be pissed/meatbally about is that they didn't trade away assets at the deadline from their shitty team who is going to be even shittier next year because they can't afford any of their FA in the offseason. Going that long without scoring is crazy but they have a pretty shitty offense, they are near the bottom 20-25 of the league in anything meaningful on offense.

yeah...regardless of whether going after the playoff spot was the right move or not (i tend to lean toward aggression when a playoff spot is in realistic play), i thought this tweet from sheehan was strange

like, the cubs have multiple key contributors that came from trading away lesser players than those within the last 5 years.

I'd have to find some sort of Scott Feldman joke to tweet back at him if I had the inclination.

There's going to be some fascinating qualifying offer calls made after the season. Hosmer, Moustakas and Cain at KC. Cozart in Cincy. Cashner in Texas. Chacin in SD. Cobb in TB. Maybe the Cubs with Wade Davis, too, considering the recent price of FA closers.

More than a couple cases where the team is going to make the offer and hope the player doesn't take it. Cozart maybe the prime example.

i'll be disappointed if the cubs don't give davis a qualifying offer. unless there are luxury tax implications to doing so, i'd be fine with him at 1 year $18 million or whatever.

Davis absolutely is getting QO'd barring any sort of late season injury and/or his medicals looking awful (which his performance wouldn't indicate this year)

this popped in my feed because i follow some vegas accounts, but i feel like this looks like a bizarro version of KB, montero, lackey, and schwarber

or basically the guys that would play them in a made for usa network movie about the 2016 cubs

Random note but it's a goody

KB has a 13% K rate in 25 August games while slashing 330/440/560

His K rate is something that I figured would drop significantly once he had more exposure to the pitchers and experience in the league, but he's looking like he could actually get into Rizzo territory, which is nucking futs. For the 2nd half he's at 15 and Rizz is at 17.

*cue the low leverage talks

The Troy Glaus with a little more BA and defensive value comps are looking quite true right now

yeah but i bet it's a 100% k rate in clutch situations.

how was that?

I assumed that Davis and Arrieta would get the QO. I'd be happy with either for another year.

Haven't looked at Cot's for a while, didn't realize they have about $56MM coming off the books (not counting Montero). Not expecting a wacky spending spree but there will be plenty of payroll available. Hard to accept that Heyward is the highest paid Cub the next two years.

Didn't see it posted here or anywhere by any Cubs writers/twitter but according to ESPN's schedule Lester is the scheduled starter this Saturday vs the Braves and next Thursday vs the Pirates

What's the harm in giving Lester one more start to rest? Monty looks strong, let him keep going

Monty should get one more start this time through the rotation before bringing Lester back just to bump everyone a day and give them an extra rest, imo.

Agreed. Let Monty make another start even if Lester is coming back. I read somewhere the Cubs were considering going to a 6-man rotation at some point. Can't remember where I saw it or if ti was just speculation.
