Wait, hasn't he been injured since the beginning of July?

i don't even know. but looks like since mid-late july. 7/21 was the last game.

i knew he was hurt at some point and missed time given his 79 game total, which was what my "2.5ish" comment was based on. didn't realize he was still hurt though.

lol BrewerFan.net's thoughts on the Cubs:

I'm still optimistic on our chances to catch the cubs. Right now is pretty much the optimal time for them to gain ground on us from a schedule standpoint. Last week and this week, they faced bums while we faced solid competition. Now we face a Dodgers team missing 3 key players while they face an awful Phillies team. In theory, after this weekend we will have better opportunities to gain ground. Also their spat of injuries certainly isn't helping their cause. Lester, Russell, Contreras, and now Bryant. And their depth/farm are both awful, so they don't have much for options to replace these guys. They feel kinda like the Brewer teams from 5-6 years ago that had some very poor players taking meaningful atbats due to lack of depth.

Which really poor players are taking ABs? Heyward? He's a starter anyways. Lets call Bryant, Rizzo, Baez/Zobrist, Russell, Contreras, Schwarber, Jay and Heyward the nominal starters. Russell you can say is replaced by Baez and Zobrist. You know, last year's NLCS and World Series MVP respectively. Contreras is replaced by Avila, who has a .900 OPS in his first 50 PAs with the Cubs. Bryant I would guess will be back in the lineup today. Lester was replaced by a guy who pitched 6 shutout innings yesterday and in general has been more then adequate as a 6th starter.

And what about depth behind the replacements? LaStella and Happ are now the IF backups behind the Zobrist/Baez combo. LaStella has a 1.2 fWAR in about 330 PAs as a Cub over 3 seasons and Happ has a 1.3 fWAR as a rookie this year. Behind Avila is Rene Rivera who is one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. I guess the one thing you can knock the Cubs on is that they don't have a decent swingman/long reliever replacement for Monty. I gotta be honest with you guys, I'm not particularly worried about not having a decent long reliever for the 2 weeks that Lester will be out with arm fatigue.

Sounds like Donald Trump is a Brewer fan with all this nonsense.

No it was in yesterday's game thread. I'm still looking at Brewers message boards because of gems like that comment.

and because I'm a weirdo

Reading that comment from Brewerfan.net cements my thought that trolls I've seen on other Cubs fan sites are clearly Brewers fans. That post is their manifesto.

Russell, Lester, and Contreras are injured, now's our chance!

[Cubs insert Baez, Montgomery, and Avila, all better than first choice Brewers at their position]

They've been playing Eric horsefeathering Sogard at SS lately, they don't get to comment on other teams backup options

2 years ago today, was the infamous KB walk off with Strop running alongside him from 3rd to home.

I didn't remember that Lester went 8 2/3 that game and lost the shut out in the 9th to tie it at 1.

Also fun fact Coghlan hit 3rd that day

Dex

Schwarber

Coghlan

Rizzo

Bryant

Seal boy

Starlin

Ross

Lester

What was so infamous about this? It was horsefeathering awesome.

Didn't see it posted anywhere, but Lester pitched a simulated game today and Contreras took abs against him and Russell is playing with Iowa tonight/this week in Memphis. Would assume barring no setbacks Russell is back on Sept 1 and Contreras/Lester are back within the first week-10 days of September. Edited by Cubswin11
