So, Ohtani has gone 13 for 17 with five homeruns and 13 RBI in his last four games, together with six stolen bases. Ohtani is currently ranked equal third by fWAR (8.0) behind Judge (10.4) and Witt Jr (10.1), tied with Gunnar Henderson, and Juan Soto is fifth (7.9). By bWAR, Ohtani is only fifth (8.1) behind Judge (10.0), Witt Jr (9.4), Henderson (8.8) and Jarren Duran (8.5).

Crazy how a 50/50 (or possibly 60/60) campaign might not be an MVP campaign. Ohtani does only DH so that would be a big reason why.

The difference between Ohtani and most DH’s is that they tend to provide negative value with their legs because they’re big lumbering oafs. Assuming I’m looking at the right thing, Ohtani is second in both Fangraphs and B-R in baserunning value in the majors this year. So while he’s not playing the field, he provides value with his legs.

On what planet is he not winning MVP this season? Every other guy you mention is in the other league.

I honestly believe Ohtani had no intentions of signing anywhere else, it was always going to be the Dodgers.  The frustrating is Jed stringing us along, just like he'll attempt to do with Soto this coming off-season.  Soto, like Ohtani, has one destination in mind - New York - well, maybe two - Mets or Yankees.

Right, you are. I somehow missed that.

Mariano Rivera pitched 19 seasons.
His only season with an ERA above 3.15 was his rookie season when he started 10 games.
His 3.15 ERA in 2007 was his only season as a reliever with an ERA above 3.
In 11 of his 17 full seasons as a reliever (excluding 2012 when he got hurt and made 9 appearances) he had an ERA under 2.

Ohtani's 50/50 ball fetches 4.4M at auction. Not bad for a trip to the ballpark.

I am thrilled that the dude who caught the baseball didn’t get pressured into giving it back to Ohtani for a signed bat and season tickets for a year. Good for him.

Edit: Actually I was slightly off. The Dodgers offered $300,000 lol.

That guy is currently getting sued by a teenager who is claiming the guy who ended up with the ball, and his buddy, more or wrestled it away from him in the scrum including putting him in an arm bar. I doubt the teenager has any real chance unless it's absurdly egregious, but still scummy behavior.

I don't care who wins the WS. I just hope it's a 4-game sweep so we can get on with the free-agent signings, releases, and trade, trade, trade.

The teenager never had it. He tried to grab it out of the guy’s crotch and then whined about not getting it.
