A lot of us really wanted Abreu, especially instead of the hodgepodge solution the 2023 Cubs had at 1B.  He's now at 671 PA as an Astro with a 74 wRC+, and is under contract at 19.5M AAV through *next year*.

I feel like most people backed off that sentiment when the contract was 3 years instead of 2 because of the fear that exactly this would happen.  That contract ended up being a higher AAV than expected too didn't it?

Most people did want 2 years instead of 3, though I'm not sure how many people thought that 3 was a dealbreaker.  AAV was maybe slightly higher than expected but only by a million or two, and he signed early in the offseason before we were calibrated on what FAs were making that offseason.

I hardly consider myself a savant but I feel very good about being proudly in the "stay the hell away from Abreu" camp that offseason

Jose Abreu of the .099/.156/.113 slash line, is being optioned to the Minors.  He's agreed to work on his timing/hitting. I guess the Atros opted not to make up a phony injury.

This jumped out to me with both Braves-Cubs series coming up in the next few weeks.  If he and Olson want to wait until June to get right that'd be great.

Rendon was just moved to the 60-day IL. What a terrible contract that turned out to be for the Angels. And he's still owed $77m after this season.

He's the only player I can think of who ACTUALLY did the "I got my huge contract now I don't give a horsefeathers" thing that dumbass fans are always saying will happen

It’s bad enough that Braves dude’s last name is Tromp, but does he also have to wear number 45?

There was an Athletic story about this that was pretty interesting. He actually asked for a number change over the offseason but he wanted 14, which Adam Duvall took. 45 was assigned to him and no one from Atlanta was willing to talk about it, so it seems likely someone in the organization decided to be a jokester and bring that topic into baseball for no good reason.

Tromp himself said he didn't even realize for a while why fans were giving him more attention than usual until it was brought up to him.

I’m not sure how Jack's career will end up, but we have the good Leiter. Sitting at Globe Life right now with a lot of people around me melting down, and it’s only the 2nd inning. 57 pitches in 1.1 right now.

Dodgers at Mets, tied, bottom of the 9th, one-out, Mets load the bases, get up on the count 3-1 and, of course, the Mets Cub their way into not scoring.

The Braves converted the infamous David Fletcher into a knuckleballer and he dominated the vaunted Norfolk Tides lineup last night lol. 5 IP he threw 80% strikes and posted a 6:1. Ain't that some horsefeathers.

Buster Olney's twitter account has been hacked and the person in control of it is making some interesting (read: nonsensical) choices.
