This tells me Boras overplayed his hand and Montgomery would have taken less AAV to get a long term deal.  Probably going to be even tougher for him next year with the loss of pick tied to signing him if he has a decent year.

If the rumored way Boras approached this has any basis in reality, I kinda wonder if Montgomery would pursue some recourse against him.  It's one thing to overplay your hand with the contract asks, it's another(and probably an ethical/contractual breach?) to steer teams to Snell first when they're expressing an interest in Montgomery.

Jack Leiter getting called up and starting Thursday against the Tigers.

You can't totally close the book on him or Casey Mize, but it's wild how little the two of them have done.  Both were in the tier below Prior/Price/Strasburg as draft prospects and even setting aside injury it has not played out how it's supposed to to this point.

This got me going down a rabbit hole to see the extent of Albies exploits as a Cub killer.  This is his career line against the Cubs:

.406/461/734

Good lord, hopefully this keeps him out until at least May 16th when the Cubs are done with the Braves for the year.

The David Price Rule

Who knew this was a thing??

“With a runner or runners on base, a pitcher will be presumed to be pitching from the Set Position if he stands with his pivot foot in contact with and parallel to the pitcher’s plate, and his other foot in front of the pitcher’s plate, unless he notifies the umpire that he will be pitching from the Windup Position under such circumstances prior to the beginning of an at-bat,” the rule states. “A pitcher will be permitted to notify the umpire that he is pitching from the Windup Position within an at-bat only in the event of (i) a substitution by the offensive team; or (ii) immediately upon the advancement of one or more runners (i.e., after one or more base runners advance but before the delivery of the next pitch).”

Cleveland pitcher balked in a run in a scoreless game against the BoSox. Ended up losing 2-0.

Are the Dodgers underachieving or just clowning the league. After starting out 9-4, they’ve gone 3-7, including  series losses to the Nats and Mets. I know they have injuries to their Saps, and the BO isn’t great, but that lineup should be scoring enough to overcome the pitching deficiencies.

Just when you thought you couldn’t possibly come up with more reasons for not wanting the Yankees to win the World Series.

Setting aside if a retirement gift is the right spot for a sponsored giveaway(probably not!), that TV costs between 4-8000 dollars depending on the specific model.

Yeah, saw that in the comments. Of course the tweet would be click bait-y lol.

A’s have just beaten the Yankees and quietly started the year 9-14. Last year they needed the 40th game of the year to win their 9th game.

I wish we had someone like Mason Miller closing, god damn. He blew Volpe, Soto and Judge away by throwing 102 and 103 pitch after pitch,

Detroit Tigers reliever Tyler Holton had a hell of a day. Loads the bases and then back to back bases loaded HBP.

I’m disturbed by the number of Facebook baseball pages that are obsessed with Trevor Bauer

The number of Cards fans drooling over him and justifying a signing with the old "Derp, she was lying about the assault" line of thinking is just gross.

If it helps you sleep at night, Trevor Bauer is almost guaranteed to be paying most of those trolls to post on his behalf.

I had to stop myself from gagging when a student told me for his birthday he wanted a Trevor Bauer jersey from his time in the NPB. Wasn't worth the potential email from a parent explaining why that was a not so cool gift idea.
