why would that be bad news for Willson? i didn't think he was bad at blocking balls and he has a strong, accurate arm. if anything i figure that would be a positive for him? am i wrong on that?

I think in general this is bad for any catcher

It's more of an issue for pitchers who rely on wicked junk to strike guys out, and I like it. Odds are it won't result in a ton of guys stealing first, but it might result in more pitches closer to the zone

It will require some calibration and tweaks no doubt, but this is infinitely better over shitty umps calling balls/strikes. The technology can only improve from here.

It is inconceivable that Lance Lynn is on pace for 8 fwar

Yeah he has a fantastic FIP(2.86), but xFIP and SIERA don't like him nearly as much(3.75 and 3.80). He's actually giving up more Hard and Med contact this year than last, but his BB/9 is the best of his career(2.07). Having a very nice year, but not as nice as fWAR is showing.

Tony Thomas! Younger, dumber me definitely thought he was gonna be a MLB 2B

Tony Thomas and Jay Jackson were my guys back then. I thought they were both future studs.

Anyone know anything about Alex Dickerson? Dude is 29 years old. The lowest wOBA he ever posted in the minors is 365 in A+, absolutely raked at every level. The only real shot he got at the Majors was 2016 with the Padres and he put up a 111 wRC+ in just under 300 PA, but nonetheless became a AAAA type. He had a 450 woba at AAA this year but was used as a PH when he was promoted. Padres traded him to the division rival Giants, and in 20 games he has a 500 wOBA. Obvious BABIP regression is coming but the lowest BABIP he ever posted in the minors was 325, so this dude clearly knows how to hit and he also never had K issues. It looks like the Giants hit big on a flyer.

This blows my mind:

Dante Bichette amassed close to 2,000 hits, 1,100+ RBI and a .299 batting average with a career war of 5.7.

Fangraphs has him at 8.9, but what is amazing is his career def value is -165.5

Which is 34th worst.

So Marisnick destroys Lucroy, giving him a concussion and a broken nose and he gets a two game suspension.

Last night, an Angels relief pitcher plunked Marisnick intentionally in the upper back and gets a three game suspension.

I know it’s a pitcher so he’s not going to pitch every game. I’m fully behind giving pitchers (especially starters) longer suspensions because they can’t pitch every day. And this pitch was too high - it was a few inches from maybe hitting Marisnick in the head. Pitchers retaliate all the time and, as long as there’s no brawl, the most that usually happens is they get tossed. This pitcher didn’t get tossed so if they suspended him for a token game because of it, I’d be fine with that. But you can’t give the pitcher a longer suspension.

I had no idea how far Paul DeJong had fallen. His #s were right there with Javy through mid-May. Since May 19th (~200 PA) he’s actually put up a worse line than *gasp* Daniel Descalso. 232 wOBA and 40 wRC+.
