We will dong them into submission.

I certainly hope you're right, but bear in mind, we didn't sweep them by donging them into submission, we swept them by pitching them into submission........

Go CUBS !!

Both teams were largely pre-dong at that point.

This is true. Through 02 July (the last time we faced the Mets) we were scoring 3.95 R/G, hitting 0.935 HR/G and OPSing .701, Since 02 July we are scoring 4.54 R/G, hitting 1.223 HR/G, and OPSing .739. I was a bit surprised to see that our pitching numbers were almost identical before and after 02 July.

It's gonna be a war !!

Go CUBS !!

Awwwwwww, yeah. That's the good stuff.

Cubs have a better rotation, bullpen, offense and bench, both at the top end and depth-wise.

The Mets are better than they were in June, but so are the Cubs.

Agreed on everything but rotation.

Well Snydergaard wasn't in the rotation the first couple of months and Harvey was shut down for a few starts right?

I'm pretty happy with this match-up. The Mets pitchers give up more fly balls and homers than Greinke/Kershaw. They also throw their fastballs more. I like our chances to dong, still. Four games of Kershaw and Greinke would be rough.

Lester still has better metrics than Harvey, and Hendricks's and Syndergaard's metrics are closer than you might think. The Mets have the advantage at 5th starter, which is irrelevant now. The gap is bigger if you just take 1-4.

Without googling, I'm saying one of these guys is someone supposedly really good on the Mets like deGrom. The other guy is Dan Haren. Not sure who's who.

i can't tell if you're making a silly "everything of ours is so much better than theirs" type joke or if you're really guessing one of those is dan haren

The timing of the pitching matchups is a bit similar to last series. There's an evenly matched Game 1 which is real important. If the Cubs lose they have Arrieta going but that's a have to have game with Hendricks/Hammel going against DeGrom/Thor(or Matz) the next 2 most likely. If the Mets lose, they're staring Arrieta and an 0-2 hole in the face heading for 3 in Chicago. Let's win the first one this time.

The current forecast for Tue/Wed is 70's with a stiff SW wind, too.

Anyone have Jon Lester's career stats pitching on three days rest? If we're down 2/1 or 3/0 heading into game four I'm sure that's the likely scenario. Also who's likely to take Russell's spot on the 25 man roster?

And considering the Mets only have one lefty reliever, Jon Niese (who isn't even good against lefty hitters), I'm hoping Maddon backs off his approach of replacing Schwarber late in games. Losing Schwarber's bat in the 7th or 8th inning, when there isn't even a good lefty in the Met pen to counter him, isn't worth Jackson's defensive upgrade.

One of these days I've got a real bad feeling Schwarber will be lifted when up by a run or two, the lead will be blown, and then Austin Jackson's weak bat will drag down the lineups chance of making a comeback.

I'm not comfortable/confident at all.

Did you edit this post

nope

Just to make sure I'm not taking crazy pills, then, someone else did?

Sounds like something Brandon would do

I would. But I didn't.

I think I almost like not having homefield more. Try to take 1 or 2 there, then 3 straight at Wrigley? I know it gets a bit more important if the series goes deep, but I'll take it.

It will be low 50's in NY which will suck, but the Chicago forecast looks pretty great.
