If this doesn't work out, he can always join the Wyatt Family.

Velocity wasn't quite back, but still plenty good. His problem was location and command, which wasn't surprising coming off of TJS. I think it's a pretty good signing for you guys.

I'm not incredibly thrilled about this but I'm kind of just blindly trusting our front office at this point. I like virtually everything else they've done.

Let's hope he returns to his 2010-2012 form. That would be pretty badass.

I think at this point we just aren't super concerned about a few million bucks.

That about covers my feelings on it too I suppose, the front office has earned the benefit of the doubt to me, with pitchers at least. Getting Motte shouldn't interrupt any other plans for the offseason, I just hope that as someone coming off TJS and a crummy season that he has to earn any high leverage time.

Couldn't 4.5M get us a noninjured very good set up righty? I mean this is almost taking on risk just to take on risk.

Like who?

lol, isn't motte the one that dated OMC's ex?

yes indeed! he actually ended up marrying one of her friends who also worked with the Redbirds.

With your eskimo brother and Nocode's family connections, we pretty much own the clubhouse now.

I hate 100% of that picture

Looking at the established market so far...

Zach Duke 3/15

Pat Neshek 2/12.5

Luke Gregerson 3/18.5

Luke Hochevar 2/10

Cubs might have been able to get a decent set up guy for 4.5, but they would have made a longer commitment than 1 year. This might be a one year placeholder for CJ Edwards or Pierce Johnson in 2016.

It's only 1 year so I don't care about the money. This is a low risk, high reward move, hard to complain about it.

This is hardly a low risk high reward situation. The risk is very real that you threw away $4.5m on a guy that will provide nothing. The reward is maybe one season of a good reliever.

Haven't they wasted good chunks of change on multiple pitchers, especially relievers?

the risk also included that fact that when he sucks, his stupid contract will give him way more leash than he deserves.

I don't mind it I guess, as long as he's not thrown into high leverage situations right away. I'm guessing Motte just took Rivero's spot on the opening day roster. I'd probably rather see Rivero, but whatever, I'm sure he'll still get plenty of time with the big league club.

Eh, they dumped Veras way earlier than I expected them to last year.

Isn't Motte a known juicer?

Yea... I did

No, but he's definitely on the sauce.
