He has a great foundation to raise awareness for "striking out cancer." I bought the Cubs version of the shirt last year.

Lots of injuries. Throws hard.

That's about all I got.

He used to throw a nasty cutter. Gotta hope he regains some of his velocity from TJS over time. Edited by Elrhino

Doesn't seem like a priority. Could be a good bounce back candidate in second season after tjs. Hopefully he's cheap.

Read he was still sitting 95+ last year.

That's not all that accurate: http://www.fangraphs.com/fgraphs/5861_P_FA_20140927.png

Basically, if Motte's velocity bounces back to pre-TJS levels, he's a decent bet to be a pretty good reliever. If it doesn't, need to hope that Bosio can make his cutter useful enough to keep hitters off balance.

EDIT: 4.5 million? Cripes, why?

Beat me to it. He was really ineffective last year with the velocity down. Maybe he's been throwing and it's back, but that much surprises me unless there's something about this we don't know yet.

The "why not?" here is the very real chance that Motte is something like our 8th best right handed reliever. This isn't 2012 any more, there's an opportunity cost to giving someone a bullpen spot.

I'm not incredibly thrilled about this but I'm kind of just blindly trusting our front office at this point. I like virtually everything else they've done.

Let's hope he returns to his 2010-2012 form. That would be pretty badass.

I think at this point we just aren't super concerned about a few million bucks.
