@MDGonzales: Theo on switch from Daytona to Myrtle Beach: "We just had a lot of weather issues and that was really the crux of it."

@MDGonzales: “The Carolina League, in our opinion, is the best high-A League for developmental purposes. These are tough decisions."

Well it's not Raleigh but I'll gladly take it! They'll travel to Raleigh, Wilmington, Winston-Salem, etc. All are either traveling distance from Greenville or my parents place an hour north of Charlotte.

DC has three Carolina league teams within a 2 hour drive including one about 30 minutes away. Consider me thrilled. Also, so long excessive rainouts.

Also, Pelicans make for an awesome mascot as they are ruthless machines of destruction. No sassing Pelicans, damnit.

I already contacted a friend in Nort Carolina to prepare a trip out there next year - we'll probably try to catch them in Zebulon when they play the Mudcats.

Living in PDX, I'm hoping for Salem-Keizer. I drive by the stadium on I-5 fairly regularly and it is pretty nice. Though, to be fair, I really have no idea about the facilities there, in Eugene, or Hillsboro. I just know that I hate going to Eugene, so no thanks. Because my personal convenience truly is all that matters.

Texas was in Myrtle Beach. I wonder why they chose not to renew?

Seems like normally the default is to maintain an affiliation. So to some degree, aren't any cities/facilities that become open basically ones whose existing team found unsatisfactory in some way? It might be that if facilities were really awesome, Myrtle Beach wouldn't be open in the first place?

Beats me. 8 rainouts still seems like kind of a lot, but 18 is ridiculous. Is the distance from our Tennessee team really significantly different? I'd doubt that's much of a factor.

Don't both sides of the deal have a say? Isn't it possible Myrtle Beach did the opting out?

You are correct. http://deadspin.com/5966336/[expletive]-you-pelicans-are-awesome-a-defense-of-the-nbas-best-new-team-name

I've been to a game at Myrtle Beach. Nice, new-ish stadium, is the center of a kid-friendly complex with some lame chain restaurants, mini-golf, and low-mid range hotels (Fairfield Inn, etc...). So, it's about as Myrtle Beach as you can get. Could be a nice diversion for dads that are spending a week there with their kids in the summer.

Ah yes, thank you. I was on my ipad yesterday and couldn't be bothered to link. [expletive] yea, Pelicans.

Apparently Ft. Wayne (low-A) was hoping the Cubs would consider them (they didn't), which would have been awesome for me. Ft. Wayne has a surprisingly nice stadium, but it's a decent amount farther from Chicago than KC and South Bend. Now I have to hope for South Bend, cause they play in Ft. Wayne several times a year, and I think KC only has one series there.

How do the logistics go when a major league club switches affiliations? Do the players all just up and leave and go to the new club? Do the coaches switch too or are they on the payroll of the minor league team and not paid by the Cubs?

the players? up and leave? i mean they're home now anyway. next year they report to wherever they're assigned.

the coaches are employees of the organization so whoever they retain would go where the front office wants them to go, i'd have to assume.

This happens in the offseason so the players are not really affected at all. They and the coaches are tied to the organization. The minor league teams themselves are independently operated businesses with an owner, a GM (who manages the business, not roster decisions) and sales/marketing types. They will just have to adjust their marketing plans next year.

Brett saying that they are switching to South Bend, could be announced today.

I am really surprised by the Kane County move, I thought this front office picked Kane County?

They did. And just because it was their best available option 2 years ago doesn't mean it is now.

Obviously, I just thought I read a lot of great things about it and am just a bit surprised about a move so fast.

sounds like south bend is committed to a much more significant capital improvement plan than kc was planning.
