Sounds like the Cubs are finally leaving Daytona, also hearing Boise's contract with the Cubs is up in the air.

RT @PaulGerke: The Boise Hawks affiliation with the Chicago Cubs will end at midnight ET. The #Cubs will not re-sign.

Update on #Cubs affiliate RT @KernanSean The @BoiseHawks GM told local TV station the #Cubs are leaving Boise.

leaving boise seems a bit odd, since it's a decent-sized city and the hawks seem to have good support. plus the cubs have been in boise for a while. but isn't the ballpark a bit of a dump?

as for leaving daytona, sounds good to me. even most other FSL destinations seem like better options.

If the Cubs leave Daytona, they would likely want to move to the Carolina League. There are three franchises whose PDCs expire next week in the Carolina League: the Carolina Mudcats (Indians), the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) and the the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Rangers).

lynchburg had the worst attendance in the carolina league this year. the carolina mudcats and myrtle beach were among the lower half, but not as bad as lynchburg. the mudcats have been an indians affiliate since 1987, while the other two (myrtle beach and lynchburg) have only been affiliated with the braves and rangers since 2011.

I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF THIS FOR SO LONG! The Potomac Nationals are so nearby and I'll be able to catch so many games. This would be so awesome.

Yeah, I think they're leaving primarily because of the ballpark and facilities.

How long have the Cubs been in Daytona? I know a few years ago they were giving away free tickets for life for anyone who got a D-Cubs tattoo. Ooops.

Also, I feel like the Carolina Mudcats are the most recognizable team in the Carolina League. I don't like that it's an 8-team league though. I'd rather stay in the FSL, but a different city.

If the goal is the avoid the excessive summer rainouts, you have to leave the FSL.

This South Carolinian for one would love it if they moved to Myrtle Beach. Cub baseball 1.5 hours from me? :good:

Didn't read the article. IS that the goal? Or is it something else?

As someone who loves Daytona, this is depressing. The city never made any serious move to improve Jackie Robinson Ballpark. They did install new seats on the 1B side, and improved the concession area, but the 3B stands were demolished in the 1970s in order to install football bleachers for HS football at the site. Promises were made to restore that portion and to upgrade the rest of the park but were never followed up on.

It's still a fun setting for a ballgame, but the majority of the FSL plays in spring training stadiums replete with practice fields, batting cages, weight rooms and the rest. JRB lost its last spring training tenant in the early 1980s, and is far below the standards Theo & Co. are looking for, rain or no rain.

With this news out it makes me look back to the Kane County move. As someone who lives close by, I know the location went into it. But is Kane County known to have good facilities for the players?

KC just announced some privately funded ballpark improvements, so if they aren't good now they will be better soon.
