Damn. I've been programmed to believe its not possible Kyle could compliment the FO.

you're thinking of back2banks

I've complimented the FO when they have made a good move. Unlike many posters, I don't throw around compliments just because it's "our" FO making the move. Something like making a good deal to get Turner or Hamels would be worthy of a compliment.

i can't tell if this is sincere or another one of his half-baked troll jobs

it's the legitimate, scathing-but-fair analysis that he learned working under Katie Pizza.

weren't we eyeballing Turner and Porcello as a return for Garza back in 2012?

among other combinations with turner, yes.

Brad penny is being added to the Marlins 40 man roster this weekend so the marlins will no longer have the option to re add turner

What!? Do they think they are still in the playoff race or something? And, if so... Brad Penny? That's who they are using to replace Turner? The 36-year-old who hasn't pitched in two years and hasn't had a sub-5 FIP or ERA since 2010?

They just traded a top-100 prospect, who was drafted 6th overall a year ago, and another guy that was a top-100 guy before the season plus a comp pick for a guy in Cosart with a career 1.26 K/BB rate. I mean, Cosart has a worse FIP and xFIP than Turner this year. Sure, Turner's fortune hasn't been all because of bad BABIP luck. But, they are essentially the same pitcher right now, except Turner is slightly younger and doesn't have any options left. So, I was already kinda confused, but... Brad Penny?

And why not just put Turner in the pen?

I have no idea what the Marlins are doing. But, their front office is an absolute joke, when you look at this, the Cosart trade, and the Bryan Morris trade. They must not look at analytics, like, at all.

Well, if Marisnick hadn't exhausted his rookie eligibility this year, he'd be nowhere near a top 100 list. He's going on 200 PAs of pathetic major league performance and was fairly meh in AAA this season. It's not as if Cosart is without a pedigree to himself. And calling Cosart and Turner the same pitcher because their FIPs match up is so lazy.

Bryan Morris has been pretty [expletive] fantastic since coming over, but yeah that trade appeared screwy, but it's quite possible teams don't value draft picks in the 30s(and I'm not certain they should?)

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a dumb move to dump Turner to get Flynn on the 25 man or Penny on the 40 man, but talking about the Marlins FO being an absolute joke with their track record while working for the worst owner in professional sports(who no doubt is behind this "playoff push") is pretty damn stupid.

No, they've been an absolute joke. Jennings is Loria's little hand puppet, which is why he got the job, so I guess I can forgive him some on that account. And, Cosart and Turner do have pretty similar results. High groundball rates, low K-rates -- with Cosart getting more grounders and giving up less HR/FB, while also walking more guys. They've done it differently: Cosart throws harder, but also only has two pitches. Cosart certainly looks a little better right now, but he's still really... meh. The difference in the two should not be the difference between DFA'ing one and giving up what they did for the other (though, I agree Marisnik is pretty much just bad, they still gave up too much value). And, it's not so much that they should worry about trading picks in the 30s; it's that they shouldn't trade for 27-year-old relievers that have been sub-replacement level.

Yeah, I know there was some interest, at least online on Nick CastlesInTheSky

Welp, TIL Larry Beinfest is no longer with the Marlins.

Yeah, they pushed him out and Jennings kinda helped in pushing him out; there was a lot of in-fighting. And Jennings only got the job because Loria viewed him as one of his minions. I'm not saying that Jennings is solely responsible for the bad moves, but he pretty much eschews analytics, from what I know. And he was kind of a snake, with the whole Beinfest being pushed out because of him ordeal. I am not positive on that, but I remember reading some things to that effect. And, he hasn't exactly hit any home runs this year. I would be pretty scared about him pulling a Kevin Towers and squandering their young talent.

So is Turner officially ours yet? C'mon...

When did the 48 hours deadline officially start?

Probably yesterday when the news broke of us claiming him +/- a few hrs? I doubt the deadline is past early evening tomorrow at the latest.

If you google Jacob Turner the little thing on the right hand side of the screen says Chicago Cubs as his current team so that's pretty official.

WikiPedia has him as a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, which is as official as the last guy who updated Jacob Turner's WikiPedia page says it is.

Someone wiki all of our minor leaguers until they figure out which one is now playing for the Marlins.

Don't worry guys, out FO will get this done. Even if they have to give up something halfway decent. They won't let Jacob Turner slip through their fingers.

There's no reason they should have to give up anything decent. The Marlins have no leverage here.

Fine, that could be true. It just seems some people are a little antsy. Maybe I was saying that to myself too.
