Does he go to AAA?

I think someone earlier said he can't go to AAA. More likely he goes to the MLB bullpen for now with Villanueva or Parker getting jettisoned.

 

Parker is already gone

 

Villanueva's up after the season. He's been pretty solid in relief. May as well get what we can for him.

The ball's still in the Marlins court. What's a fair exchange? Rule 5 bate (Amaya, Hernandez, Rhee?) Reclamation for Reclamation (Vitters, Jackson, Szczur?) Cash in perennial trade chip Vogelbach? Assorted spare parts?

 

I thought the Cubs now had his rights.

They can still pull him back if they want to.

According to the Rosenthal tweet, if they pull him back they have to put him through irrevocable waivers due to the DFA. In which case, we can simply grab him again.

If we get Turner, we're 7 deep heading into next season with Arrieta/Wood/Jackson/Hendricks/Wada/Straily/Turner. Before FA.

 

7 pitchers. Wouldn't call it deep though. Ideally, Arrieta and only 2 of those others start the season in the rotation, unless one turns awesome in the next 2 months

That's where I am. Am I stupid for thinking if he were a prospect, he'd be in our top 10?

 

Other than having already burned up some pre-FA years, why isn't he better than, say, Pierce Johnson?

I'd rank him ahead of Johnson, but also wouldn't have Johnson in the top 10.

He has definitely been rushed developmentally. I'd definitely have him in the top 10, if he were still a prospect. I still think he's a good bet to wind up a longterm 3/4 guy.

Yeah that's where I am. I want a "proven" starter (Lester, Maeda) and a reclamation guy that's more established than Doubront, Turner, et al (McCarthy comes to mind). But Turner, Doubront, Straily and Wood have all had recent success, so a Lester would go a long way.

I previously wanted 2 as well but with Turner I am okay with them only adding 1 as long as that guy is a top of the rotation guy.

If we added someone very good, I'd be comfortable with VeryGoodSomeone / Arrieta / Turner / (Wood / Jackson / Hendricks / Wada / Doubront / Straily)

Forgive my ignorance of the system, but under what scenario does Turner NOT become a Cub, now?

 

Marlins pull him back, put him on irrevocable waivers, and he's claimed by Colorado?

My guess is that we try to package multiple guys for an upgrade during the offseason. Going eight deep without any acquisitions is pretty ridiculous depth, but is very thin on quality.

Yeah I thought this as well. Maybe package some of them with whoever else for Hamels then sign Lester in the offseason.
