So to sum up, Kevin Towers went from:

Heath Bell

Tyler Skaggs

David Holmberg

Adam Eaton

To

Mark Trumbo

Some terrible Low-A reliever

3 PTBNL, 2 of which might be Rule 5 eligible already

~2 million dollars

What a staggering hemorrhage of value.

does two 17 year old bodies with good K/BB numbers and some degree of upside for Tony Campana make it look any worse?

You aren't taking into account the gain of willingness to hit the opposing batter with pitches.

@Ken_Rosenthal Source: #Rockies acquire Brett Anderson from #Athletics for Drew Pomeranz and Chris Jensen.

I'm not even sure I'd project Anderson to be better than Pomeranz this year.

Yeah, that's kind of shocking. Bad move for the Rockies (imo).

Well, that escalated quickly...

are the white sox gonna play this [expletive]? im asking for a friend's fantasy team

I have really liked the A's offseason so far. That's a good trade for them. Getting a buy-low in Pomeranz and also getting him from a hitter's park into a pitcher's park.

Looking forward to maybe seeing Pomeranz and Bobby Wahl on the same staff one day; two former Rebels

Man the Cubs better get 3 top 50 prospects for Samardzija if that's what people are giving up for Anderson and Trumbo.

Shark is certainly more valuable than Anderson, but I don't think either Pomeranz or Jensen would qualify as top 100 prospects. 3 top 50 for Shark is execessive.

The D-Backs know they don't get a DH, right? Someone mentioned that to them before pulling the trigger on the deal?

Seriously, where do they plan to play Trumbo? Is Parra still going to be relegated to a 4th OF?

Point = if teams are overpaying...... didn't think I'd have to explain that was tongue in cheek.

Is Trumbo a decent comp for Olt?

Not really, Olt's a terrific defender at 3rd and doesn't have quite the same HR power. Plus there's still a wide range of offensive outcomes for Olt so it's hard to give a very good player comp. He very likely won't hit for a high average and will K a lot, but he will take plenty of walks and has enough pop to put up a strong ISO. Maybe the closest optimistic comp is something like Pedro Alvarez with a bit less power but more defense?

Not particularly.

Trumbo hits for power at the MLB level, is completely awful on defense and doesn't take walks.

Olt might hit for power at MLB but hasn't shown he can handle it yet, is pretty good on defense and takes a ton of walks.

For the record..

Arizona was bad offensively, especially in slugging despite having Goldschmidt.

They have a very good and young starting staff(23,24,25,27 and 30) including their top 2 being lefties. Collmenter is also in the pen at 27 and has had success as a starter. Starting Pitching was a strength.

They gave up a young lefty who struggled, and has lost velocity plus Eaton who is basically the same outfielders as Pollack, who already plays center.

Trumbo played 4 different positions over the last 2 years, he will undoubtedly get better playing just LF.

He averaged 30+ hrs 95 rbi over three seasons in a huge pitcher friendly park. His walks have gone up every season, including 54 last season- Rizzo had 76. It's mind boggling to see the emphasis put on 1 more walk every 8 games for a middle of the order power bat.

There is a very good chance his stats will go up in Arizona-40 hrs, and .800 ops should be a good bet. He is under club control until 2017.

With good defenders Parra and Pollack playing the other 2 spots, and Prado being allowed to just play 3rd, They will be more than adequate defensively.

They had a need, they gave up two players that were pretty disposable for them.

You can argue his walks went up because Pujols was injured and Hamilton forgot how to play baseball and as a result Trumbo had no one around him to protect him in the lineup so teams felt more comfortable walking him when he was swinging a hot bat.

Bringing up/bashing Trumbo is like the neely bat signal.

Mark Trumbo is good at hitting home runs. Home runs are pretty valuable, which is good because Mark Trumbo does quite literally nothing else well. As a LF he's below average in total, and ZiPS sees very little difference in he and Eaton, who was dealt along with a very talented pitcher for the right to pay Trumbo more money for fewer years than Eaton. Even if you hate the players that were traded away, they had more value than getting Mark Trumbo in return, if only in reputation. The trade was horrific for Arizona and Kevin Towers should feel bad and hopefully they lose 120 games next year.

I think his stats dropped partially because of this his walks actually dropped. He had only 20 of 54 the last 3 months. I think he may have been pressing because no one else was doing anything and he thought he had to hit no matter where he was pitched.

Never know, I think it's a pretty good gamble for Arizona. They have to try to catch LA and they need offense badly.

He could put up some nice numbers and he'll be added protection behind Goldschmidt.
