Source: Feldman agrees with #Astros, three years, $30 million, pending physical.

I like the Feldman signing for the Astros. It might be a bit much giving him $10 million AAV, but you get a guy to lock in a spot in your rotation for the next 3 years that will likely give you a win or two over replacement and don't have to worry about filling that. They have plenty of other holes and uncertainties they can plug guys in and out of/try out at multiple other spots. To get some certainty in one spot in the rotation over the next 3 years is smart, imo, given where they are at as an organization.

Not that I expected the Cubs to be players for Granderson, but jesus christ do our present OF options look bleak. OFers presently on the 40 man: Bogusevic, Sweeney, Jackson, Soler, Lake, Schierholtz and Szczur.

Barring a move, what is our opening day OF? Sweeney/Lake/Schierholtz?

I'm holding out hope that we can gamble on Hart.

Meh. I don't know how much more limited his injury may have left him, but in 2011 he was good for nearly 4 WAR in 130 games playing exclusively outfield. In 2012 he had a UZR of 0 in like 50 games playing the OF.

Just throw him in left and hope he can put up like .270/.340/.490 or something.

Don't forget Vitters.

I'm upset about the Cubs not going after K. Johnson for what the Yankees got him at. I don't know why I care as much as I do with the Cubs offseason while they stop-gap the remainder of the 25 man roster. Yet when Tanaka goes elsewhere, I'll be upset again.

Tanaka is the only one I really care about this offseason.

Given the current OF, Franklin Gutierrez is my favorite target. Between the 4 of Sweeney/Lake/Schierholtz/Gutierrez, you can throw Bogusevic in there too if you like, I think there's a pretty good chance to mix and match and platoon your way to a pretty decent OF. I like Maybin for similar reasons, although he'd be more of a mainstay in CF.

Yeah, I've wanted Kelly Johnson for years. I'd given Granderson that deal too, though I think it's unlikely he'll be worth that 4th year at the least.

Of the six worst teams in baseball in 2013, #Cubs are only one not to have handed out $24 million or more in new contracts so far.

Am I missing something the White Sox did?

Arguably their biggest offseason move came before Halloween, when the White Sox agreed to a six-year, $68 million deal with free agent Jose Abreu.

Oh it figures I'd forget that and then only look at their November/December transactions. Thanks.

I don't think we've handed out 4 million in new contracts

Kottaras and Wright add up to $2.5m on the dot.

Per @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #Nationals agree with free-agent OF Nate McLouth on two-year contract, pending physical.

That *was* my cheap suggestion.
