Cano to the Mariners, supposedly. 8 years 214 mil.

I wouldn't go there.

Actually, you know what's funny, I was gonna say "I wouldn't go there, but the Mariners probably have to at this point." and then I realized that we're really smack dab in the middle of that "probably have to at this point" category, as well.

I edited my post on the last page. Szymborski got duped by a fake twitter account, and took me along for the ride. Cano is still on the market.

This is the best day of any offseason ever, from a non-team-specific viewpoint.

@#%@#$, that was fake

This has been a pretty exciting day for transactions.

Yeah, for some reason I thought we'd wind up with Ellsbury too. Even more so after basically sitting out of FA this long.

And yeah, I know it's silly to say AND it's wrong, but at this point, I don't want to give up a 2nd for Granderson, unless we get Ubaldo(give up the 3rd as well) or Tanaka.

Well, it's pretty unlikely you have to worry about that, I was just offering a possibility to Tree

Kind of surprised by some of the reaction considering I thought we all assumed they weren't going to be in on anything interesting.

Sometimes you can't control hope, you robot monster.

I guess you can't blame these guys for going elsewhere, all things considered. You know their agents are trying to bleed the F.O. and Theo and Co. don't seem bleedable, for better or worse. If the Yankees are gonna go 7/160, what would it take for us to make him come here? 7/180?

Probably, and that's not worth it, IMO. My guess is we be "traders" rather than "signers".

It's only money to the Yankees, but who was going to give Jacoby Ellsbury close to $150 million?

Anyone who gave him 7 years?

Honestly, with the way this offseason is going I'm surprised not to be hearing more about trading for Stanton. I'd have thought every writer would spend all through January working up trade proposals, and every fan on every board going nuts about the possibility.

The Marlins squashed that rumor pretty early in the offseason by saying they had zero intentions of trading him. I know it's to be taken with a grain of salt with the Marlins, but that was their stance on it early on, that's why there's been no Stanton stuff.

Great. So it's going to be dumpster diving for other team's misfit toys, and hoping that there's a GM that doesn't hate dealing with us to make a decent trade.

I guess I'm limiting my ceiling of expectations now to a trade of Samardzija for 2 good prospect (hopefully 1 top 25-30 guy) and a major league ready guy with some upside/youth, trade for Maybin and signing Tanaka + a reliever like Axford. The signing of someone like Axford is the only thing I'm relatively certain of.

I wanted Ellsbury and I'm disappointed we didn't get him, but there's no way I'd have given him seven years.

He'll be 36 in the last year of this contract.

It's not the age, it's the inability to stay on the field. I know his injuries have been "freaky", but it's hard to ignore.

And you have to believe the reason he signed already is that he and his camp knew that was easily the best offer they were going to get.

I'm all for going nuts to get Tanaka, but I'm shocked so many people are disappointed on losing out on Ellsbury for that money. Or at least that's the way it sounds. No way in hell I'm giving him $21 million per season. Not even close. And that's even if we have a bunch of money to spend.
