Wtf??

He must have been Miami or bust, because that deal sucks for him.

So if we want him, we can trade for him in like 7 months.

Ellsbury to the Yankees apparently, Morneau to the Rockies

@JonHeymanCBS: Ellsbury and Yankees appear to be closing in on 7-year deal. cbsprt.co/1cXnbQa

@JonHeymanCBS: told Ellsbury deal w/NYY will "above Crawford." $150M is a fair estimate. will give yanks dynamic lineup top.

If Choo signs, will there be enough left on the market to even fantasize about a good offense?

that's exactly what i was about to ask. is it still possible for someone smart to piece together a good offseason that isn't just "um the marlins are dumb so they trade us their five best players for a full report on what dale sveum is like behind closed doors."

Sign Ellis 1Y/6.5M

Sign Granderson 4Y/50M

Baez takes over for whoever sucks more out of Ellis or Valbuena.

Granderson-Lake-Nate-Sweeney-Righty OF split time

ETA: We probably can't afford to spend that money on a platoon OF, so I guess that's Vitters or McDonald or some waiver wire fodder

Losing out on Ellsbury really, really sucks. And acquiring him instead of Cano probably leaves the Yankees with enough money to get Tanaka too.

This offseason is not going well.

This is the first miss that really stings to me (though Puig and Sanchez stung retroactively). For some reason I had convinced myself he was coming here.

Kottaras, Scott Baker, some reliever for 1/$4m who is using us to get some "proven closer" pixie dust, some random 1/$5m veteran outfielder with lots of grit and leadership, and a 1/$3m infielder to caddy in case we decide we don't want to go Valbuena/Castro/Barney/Rizzo and Olt still sucks.

This will be our offseason.

So John Axford.

I guess you can't blame these guys for going elsewhere, all things considered. You know their agents are trying to bleed the F.O. and Theo and Co. don't seem bleedable, for better or worse. If the Yankees are gonna go 7/160, what would it take for us to make him come here? 7/180?

So scared that the FO is outta here when their deals are up; I cant imagine that not having money was something they wanted and that the Ricketts have botched things big time.

I don't think it's instead of Cano...

Edit:

Dan Szymborski is a jerk retweeting fake accounts. Cano not off the market yet.

Jeff Passan says, however, that the Yankees believe they have room for Ellsbury, Cano or Choo, and a starting pitcher, likely spelling the end of Plan 189.

I wonder if this is the other shoe dropping with the new posting system possibly nearing approval. Maybe the Yankees realized they weren't going to have much of a shot.
