LOLZ all you want; that team actually signed someone of value.

I'd be thrilled as [expletive] if our broke assed team called a presser, signed Grant Balfour and called it "significant"

Don't be that guy.

I would've signed Garza to that deal in a second. He could miss a season and be worth the contract

Really curious what Ubaldo's market is now. I always liked him better than Garza, and his value should be lower with the pick attached. The Brewers being the high bid for Garza at that price makes me a little optimistic there's not too many teams still really looking for starters too.

Garza, Gallardo, Lohse, Peralta isn't a bad top 4 of a rotation and good enough to be a playoff teams rotation. Obviously assuming health.

That is not a good rotation. Garza is the only one who you can be at all certain to provide above average production.

If Jimenez asks for that same deal, do you sign him?

I would. I imagine the front office wouldn't, they probably value that second rounder more than we do.

Just no

i'd be thrilled to sign ubaldo even for significantly more than that. the idea that we're going to rollover unused payroll from this year to the next is a farce. go get someone. anyone.

Ubaldo totaled 3 fWAR in the 2nd half alone, which led MLB

we didn't even have a 3 fWAR pitcher for the whole season

I think his second half/improvements were credited to some sort of adjustment in his delivery as well so it might not just be some random luck/sample but a sign of something sustainable. I think he was opening way up with either his hips or front foot and closed it quite a bit to get back to where he was in Colorado, iirc, Law tweeted about it.

It depends on what year it is. 2010, that's a solid rotation.

According to a poster on Brewerfan.net who has "sources" the MRI revealed Garza has a partially torn labrum and it might kill the deal. They'd switch their sights to Ubaldo and for the second offseason in a row give up their first round pick for a FA (Lohse last year). Idk if I like that strategy or not (giving up 1st round picks for non elite guys when you are barely a fringe WC team). This guy seems to be supported by multiple posters there that his source in the past has been legit.

Guess not.

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed free agent pitcher Matt Garza to a four-year contract.

The Brewers announced the deal Sunday but did not disclose financial terms, saying the contract includes a fifth-year vesting option for 2018. The deal is worth $50 million, and Garza could make up to $67 million based on performance bonuses, according to multiple media reports.
