Marlin Bystro made a random comment on PSD asking if Jason Hammel changes our win variance at all. Might be sarcasm from him or something but i'd wager we probably signed him.

Bystro's track record is looking pretty good.

Too bad he doesn't make stuff up to go along with it like that other guy so he can post more often.

I think he called the Hammel thing during the year last year, that our FO liked him a lot and he was gonna be a target.

Marlin CLEARLY has inside info. No idea how many message boards have a "guy with info", but my guess is Marlin is the most legit one.

I'm always glad to see hoops post here...

Oh, not a shot at Hoops. Just Marlin has gotten multiple things right, with very few mishaps.

Damn, did Hoops disappear again though? Hopefully it's just because there's nothing going on.

Yeah it's only been a decade since he had a scoop

A source told me this morning that the Cubs are "heavily negotiating" on a relief pitcher - only information was that it's not a name previously linked to the Cubs. No indication on what length of contract, whether closer or setup, or when an announcement could happen.

This might be tied to the Gordon Wittenmyer tweet that the Cubs are talking to Washington about bullpen help.

Hey...this could be considered scooping Veras...sort of....right?

Cubs got James McDonald on a minor league deal, with a spring training invite. At least, we've done a damn good job on the non roster guys. Edited by davell

I always enjoyed Hoops' posts. He seemed to have some decent information.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers and Cubs watched Suk-Min Yoon throw on Tuesday.

Yoon, a 27-year-old right-hander from Korea, made about 30 pitches in front of scouts representing the Rangers and Cubs. He is also drawing serious interest from the Orioles, Giants, and Twins, and his agent Scott Boras is expecting to sign a multi-year deal. Yoon moved to the bullpen last year in Korea due to a shoulder injury, but he has had success as a starter in the past.

We avoided arbitration with Samardzija. Did this really go a day without being mentioned?

I'm pissed that it's even looked at as news honestly. I don't care if we had to pay him 4.4 or 6.2 or anything in the middle. The tone of some pieces prior to him signing acted like this was a "major" commitment. If a 5ish mill salary is a "major" commitment, it's pitiful. But, in fairness, with our 85 mill payroll, I guess it is.....
