It'll never happen, but I wonder what it would cost the Cardinals? If I were Dipoto and the Cards called, My asking price would start with Miller, Martinez, Wong and Taveras. And I'd want another couple of their top 10 prospects on top of that. At least.

Absolutely not.

For Trout? If I'm the Angels, I do it if they send Miller, Wacha, Rosenthal, Martinez, Taveres, and Adams.

I'd probably try to unload some of their bad contracts too, possibly CJ Wilson and/or Howie Kendrick.

If the Cards were willing to pay that, I'd almost like to see it happen. Almost.

That's an absolute haul, a good chunk of their near-term rotation and two of their three best young position players. As other worldly as Trout is, I'd have to think the Cards would lose a good chunk of WAR in that exchange.

Then again, others would probably magically ascend from the minors to fill the gaps. Pixie dust and all that nonsense.

I dunno because I'm an idiot. I thought Kendrick especially was a 1-2 WAR player. But CJ Wilson got paid $21 million for ~4.0 total WAR the last 2 seasons. Regardless thats not as bad as I thought. I am wrong.

I'd make them take Pujols back.

I think any hypothetical negotiations would HAVE to start with them taking Pujols back.

A's are now 1-12 in elimination games under Beane. Poor guys.

Doesn't this demonstrate the limitations of true Moneyball? These losses in deciding games are to Verlander (twice), Pedro, Clemens and Pettitte. Having to decide between handing the ball to Bartolo Colon or Sonny Gray isn't going to get it done. Same thing last night with the Cards/Pirates game.
