Is this even legal? RT @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #Orioles agree to acquire Norris from #Astros for Hoes and another piece. Finalizing now.

No one's gonna jump on this?

Also, why would the Cardinals have an interest in Navarro?

Molina on the DL. But no deal. According to multiple reports, STL wouldn't meet the Cubs' asking price.

Ahh, had no idea Molina was on the DL. I was secretly hoping for an unexpected Biogenesis suspension :)

Tom Musick jumped on it.

Keith Law tweeted that he would take Bros before him.

Maybe he's on the disabled list with death.

Has goony come in here yet to tell us how holding onto Schierholtz and DeJesus signals we wont attempt to compete next year?

Maybe this will shut up some of the people who have way overrated Nate Shierholtz. I'm sure if several team gm's had thought the club's price tag was reasonable Nate would be sporting different colors and would not be penciled in the lineup for right field tonight.

Good news for Shierholtz fans - he won't make it through waivers. Bad news is I don't think he will have more value than he did this afternoon.

Like who?

What's wrong with his .283 .331 .554 .885 line against RH pitchers? He's been exactly what they were hoping he'd be: a good platoon player.

And while people like to throw out "platoon player" as a perjorative, it's not as easy as they seem to think to find the dominant half of a platoon.

So your theory is that the Cubs got stuck holding on to Schierholtz with nobody offering anything, in a market where Hairston and Soriano netted interesting pitching prospects?

Is it really that tough to grasp the point he's trying to make?

There's no doubt this is about as high as Schierholtz's value will get. Color me stupid if he tears it up the rest of the way I guess.

No, he made it very clear; it's just funny that he thinks they were people who have "way overrated" Schierholtz.

Who cares?

Baseball players are not lines in a stock portfolio. The name of the game isn't to sell them at their peak value. It's to use them to help you win baseball games.

As opposed to trading them for low A prospects? It seems to me that keeping them signals more of a win now mentality. Or am I missing something?

So anyone besides Gregg likely to still be moved as a waiver deal?

I don't think any of the other candidates (Dejesus, Nate, Russell) are likely to pass through waivers. It's possible they get claimed and the Cubs work out a trade though I guess.

Doesn't Gregg cost the minimum? That would make him an easy waiver acquisition for any team that desperate for a bullpen arm, which means he wouldn't pass through either. I kind of feel like the Cubs will just keep him since they won't get anything for him and they are sick of their bullpen being so unstable.

He doesn't have to make it all the way through though. Try and get a trade with whoever claims him

You're right, he wont. But the price tag was obviously as high as it was because the Cubs find him to be more valuable to them than whatever was being offered. They do have to field a team next year and having his production penciled into the lineup against rightys everyday is a nice option to have rather than getting some A baller or middling AAA guy who may or may not help next year.

Rios for a PTBNL(likely Leury Garcia). Not a fan of Garcia myself, but he'd probably be a top 5 prospect for the White Sox.

Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Pirates. Decent additions for them, I guess. Found this line funny in the article....

The 35-year-old Byrd should help the Pirates overcome the absence of leadoff hitter and star left fielderStarling Marte, who is on the disabled list with a hand injury.
