Heyman says it didn't actually happen:

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 1h

while it wouldn't surprise if #STLCards liked alexei r, #chisox did not turn down top rhp prospect Carlos Martinez for him

ABTY agrees:

The White Sox were NOT offered Carlos Martinez for Alexei Ramirez... Michael Blazek and Stephen Piscotty (which is still too damn much IMO) was the offer... Sox asked for Martinez instead on Blazek and even offered to include an additional piece to facilitate... No dice...

While it's funny to think about the White Sox being stupid enough to turn down that trade, I doubt STL was stupid enough to offer it.

The message board was super weird last night. Sorry about the triple post.

Yeah, there was a double topic from around the same time, only one of them said the topic does not exist if you clicked on it. Had to merge it with another thread to make it go away.

Okay, so let's say you're the GM for the Royals. Who do you trade away in order to get either a productive bat for either a 3rd baseman or 2nd baseman without sacrificing too much of your farm system, and the player is also can be controlled in 2014?

They're only 7 games behind the AL Central, and if my math is right, 5 games behind the last WC spot.

The Tigers acquired reliever Jose Veras from the Astros, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Astros received outfielder Danry Vasquez and a player to be named later, tweets Brian McTaggart of the Houston Chronicle. The PTBNL will be decided on or before September 15th.

The first closer domino has fallen.

The aggressive Orioles are "even willing to move" top prospect Dylan Bundy "for the right return," sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Perhaps any player can be moved for the right return, but Rosenthal's report implies the Orioles are more willing to listen on Bundy than teams usually are on top prospects.

The Padres have about a 25 percent chance of making a significant trade deadline deal, a person familiar with their talks tells ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. Crasnick says the Padres' big-picture ideas haven't materialized, so they're focused on moving bullpen pieces such as Luke Gregerson and Joe Thatcher. I imagine Gregerson, who has drawn significant trade interest, is likely off the Tigers' radar in the wake of their Jose Veras acquisition today.

The Padres aren't likely to move third baseman Chase Headley, left fielder Carlos Quentin, or closer Huston Street, reports MLB.com's Corey Brock. If they do make a trade, it appears the focus will be on acquiring starting pitching.

Cubs sure could use a nice reliever

Doesn't seem like there is a fit for us, short of doing a deal around Samardzija.

Orioles gave up Delmonico for K-Rod a week or so ago, IIRC.

so you agree that bundy would be the more valuable asset past 1 season

Bundy had TJS in June which means he's pretty much a non-factor for next season. So what you're left with is a very talented 22 year old with 18 IP (plus whatever rehab he can get next year) above A ball. Having the more valuable asset for 2016 and beyond is not worth essentially punting 2014.
