ROFL....

Bennett: Bears are one of my favorite animals after dinosaurs, and there's no dinosaurs in the NFL.

Just the tip of the iceberg with this guy. Love it.

He's gonna be on The Score after the commercials.

Emery says they're up against the cap. Not a lot of wiggle room. Probably done with high dollar FA's.

That probably means we are drafting two OL's, a DT, a LB, and a WR.

Had 7.01 mill in cap room, Bushrod and Bennett count 4.95 this year and cutting Davis, Spaeth, and Toeiania(sp) saves us 5.395. So currently, we've got 7.401 mill still to spend. That counts draft choices, though 3 mill likely covers them. Jensen just announced we've got 5.6 mill, but I'm using his numbers individually. Even though Emery mentioned we wouldn't be getting a starting OG in FA, I'm fairly optimistic we CAN, if we find someone we really want. Even without doing a bunch of restructures/extensions.

Can still cut Hester and pick up some extra spending money, right?

I think they bring in a depth guard to compete and then draft a guy. And you gotta remember the Bears still need to fill 2 starting LB spots, get some CB and DT depth, and a backup QB in addition to OG.

If I had to guess as of today, I'd think they'd sign a QB, either Urlacher or Roach for MLB, then draft CB, DT, WR, OLB, and OG

While it is nice knowing you have a couple questions answered about your team.....the day after the start of free agency is when I start to put it all into perspective. As Bears fans, the last several years, we've looked forward to the opening of free agency to see how the team would try to fill glaring holes on the team. But living in Steelers country, I've come to realize how this isn't really a big positive.

I want to be where the Steelers are in most years. Where Green Bay, New England, Baltimore, and San Francisco are this year. I want to be part of a fanbase that frets the first day of free agency. I want to be in the position to lose top players instead of needing to spend the money to pick them up. I want to be the team that has to make decisions of whether to pay your developing WR, potential star pass rusher, or veteran safety. Losing big-time free agents means you had big time players to begin with. Big time players that you drafted and developed.

While Bennett and Bushrod are nice and likely to help with this team's short-term success, the key should be long-term success. And in order to sustain success for a long period of time, the Bears need to make bold moves in late April rather than early March. The last time the Bears were in the position those 4 teams I named above are in this offseason was coming off of the Superbowl appearance. The Bears proceeded to royally blow the subsequent draft and it frankly set the team back to the point that they have only been close to that level 1 more time in the 6 seasons since. Unfortunately, the Bears will probably be in this spot again next year, because they don't have a ton of young talent and only have 5 draft picks this year. But a good draft this year and next, and the Bears are in a position to compete for a long-time. And teams will seek the Bears' talent when it becomes available.

Raw, I definitely get what you're saying. We'll likely be in cap hell 2-3 years from now, unless we hit big on some draft picks. As far as the rest of this offseason goes, I suspect Campbell or McCown returns as our 2nd QB, keep Idonije on a 2 year deal, we keep one of Louis or Scott, and one of Urlacher or Roach and one of Bowman or Hayden.. I think we'll trade down in the draft, if possible, and draft an OG, speedy WR, and a LB, in the 1st 3 rounds.(if we can pick up an extra top 3 round pick). After that, a D-Lineman and either a developmental QB or possibly a CB. At any rate, Cutler has it much, much better now than he had it prior to yesterday. I'd love to still see an extension to Tillman. Kind of figure its the wrong time to extend Jennings honestly. A longterm deal for Melton would be nice as well. If those 2 things could happen relatively soon, maybe it'd give us enough room to add Booth or Moore.

Call me a meatball but I'm going to be sick if Urlacher is playing for the Vikings or Cowboys next season.

Smart move would probably be to let him walk. But sentimentally, I want him around. I think he has something to prove and he was playing much better in the middle of the season.

These signings completely messed up my draft projections...

It makes me lean more towards BPA in the 1st or Tavon Austin in the 1st. Too much baggage with Ogletree. Hoping Cooper falls which likely leaves BPA and needs filled together.

In the 2nd, I like Warford OG-UK

In the 4th, I'd trade up to get Bostic ILB-UF

5th-Zac Dysert-QB-Miami (OH)

6th-Earl Wolff-SS-NC St.

Yeah, I hope Cooper/Warmack fall to 20; if they don't, I'd probably try to trade down and try to scoop up a 3rd rounder.

Agreed, although I will settle for just making better solid value picks overall, rather than ridiculous reach picks that have so little chance of working out.

The other thing is, there is a lot of room to improve what happens in between late April and early September. Especially on the offensive side of the ball. It's fine to bring in a new crop of fresh faces. Everyone does that. It's quite another thing to develop those players into productive pros, that work well in your system, fill in effectively for hurt stars, and limit game-killing mistakes.

I really feel we've been lacking in the player development part of the equation, especially on the O.

Warford would be a really nice pick. Big boy that can really clear out in the run game and does a good enough vs. the pass rush. I still think it would be ballsy to take Fluker and put him at LG. I think he's a decent RT, but I think he could be dominant at OG.

Denard has only been working out as a receiver. The thing is that he's well behind the actual receivers, and it's a deep year for receivers. The fact that there aren't a lot of clear-cut first rounders, yet there is a lot of depth suggests it'll be a pretty big log jam in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I think 3rd round is a reach on him.
