My bad. I thought he was a -1.5.

I still prefer Baker...

Sean Jensen @seankjensen

#Bears are finalizing a long-term deal with OT Jermon Bushrod, according to a league source.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter

Former Saints OT Jermon Bushrod reached agreement with Bears.

Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora

Bears are wrapping up a deal with OT Jermon Bushrod

EDIT:

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter

Bears give former Saints OT Jermon Bushrod a five-year deal, as well.

Hearing the interest with Moore is mutual.

This is outstanding, now we can truly draft BPA come draft day

And this is why mock drafts prior to free agency are kinda silly.

Nice. Go get Moore?

I kind of like the idea of getting Winfield and getting a young interior lineman via the draft.

So, I wonder if they'll re-sign Louis? I wonder how healthy he is. Webb/Carimi/possibly Louis competing for 2 spots on the right side?

Yeah Moore is old. I'd rather draft a guard. Gotta develop talent at some point.

Rotoworld less than thrilled:

Bears agreed to terms on a five-year contract with LT Jermon Bushrod, formerly of the Saints.

The Bears were on a mission to upgrade Jay Cutler's protection, and they've done so slightly. Although Bushrod is regarded as a top-tier left tackle because he's kept Drew Brees upright, he actually graded out similarly to J'Marcus Webb last season. Cutler doesn't get the ball out nearly as quickly as Brees. Still, the Bears certainly know what they're getting as offensive line coach Aaron Kromer worked with Bushrod in New Orleans. At the very least, they've added depth to a thin unit. Webb may kick to right tackle, with Gabe Carimi at guard.

So, contract for Bushrod falls closely in line with what #Giants paid to keep Will Beatty, just a little bit less.

Since you asked...

Sean Jensen ‏@seankjensen

Keep in mind, with Will Beatty's five-year, $38.75 million deal, Giants had a cap number of $3.55 million. So #Bears could get number low.

Sean Jensen ‏@seankjensen

It all depends on structure and how much you want to eat now or push until later….

Pro Football Focus ‏@PFF

Yes. Bushrod doesn't fix it. Marginally better than Webb RT @dopez24: @PFF marginal upgrade?? You did see the #bears oline last year right?

Well, that should be the reaction. He was pretty poor last season and we know Emery knows that since he pays attention to PFF; hopefully he can rebound next season.

ETA: That was in response to Rotoworld's review.

Yikes, Levitre got paid. Bears were supposedly interested but outbid...

Levitre's deal with TEN, 6yrs $46.8M. Whopping $13M in 2013, $19.5M o er 1st 2 yrs of deal ...

Congratulations guys. Bushrod's departure from the Saints now means they have another gaping hole to fill.

That said, a lot of people here were much more upset to see Carl Nicks go last year than Jermon go to the Bears. Many credit his success to Brees' quick release and pocket presence, not because he's a great pass protector. I am genuinely curious to see how he handles the turf, the weather, more of a running scheme and having to protect a more statuesque QB. In any case, it sucks for us.

Jermon Bushrod billed as a savior is free agency lunacy.

Who in the heck is billing him like that besides meatheads?

Of course Beatty was far better last year.
