I'd like Baker or Vollmer rather than Bushrod.

Did not expect Bennett amongst the TE free agents, but that's a good signing if the dollars are ok.

If this guy goes by The Black Unicorn and Joe Gryffindor, I like him already.

I heard he also goes by "Bearded Ghost".

Sean Jensen[/url]"]According to Pro Football Focus, Bennett was rated the NFL's fifth-best overall tight end, ahead of players such as Jimmy Graham (10th), Vernon Davis (9th) and Tony Gonzalez (17th).

As a receiver, Gonzalez was No. 1 and Bennett was 11th. Bennett was ranked 3rd by PFF as a pass blocker and 13th as a run blocker.

Bennett is a great blocker, right?

That should help the OL considerably if he's better than our blocking specialist TE who can't actually block well.

probably the best blocking TE in football if you trust PFF

he's been pretty injury prone though

Played through them mostly?

He has played in 76 out of 80 games during his career.

Some Marty B greatness.

"(Shoot). I’m like Scott Summers. You know who Scott Summers is? Cyclops off X-Men," Bennett said.
"I caught him, I saved his life, I tapped into my inner superhero, which I do have," he told Garafolo. "I'm usually a ninja, but my Spidey-senses told me he was going to take a fall, so I saved his life. He owes me his first-born or something. Actually I don't want that. Maybe a sandwich or something."

“I’ve always been the Black Unicorn because I am 50% black and 50% amazing. I was about 6 or 7 when I figured out I was amazing. And I was about 24 when I figured out I was black.”

The Bears are in talks with former Saints tackle Jermon Bushrod. Badly need to upgrade the offensive line

According to a source familiar with Urlacher's situation, there doesn't seem to be a prevailing sense of urgency coming from Halas Hall as the official start of the 2013 league year approaches Tuesday afternoon. Urlacher, 34, received interest from several teams during the 87-hour "legal tampering" period that preceded the start of free agency, though it's believed he prefers to remain with the franchise that drafted him ninth overall in 2000.

Urlacher, who made $8 million last season, would almost certainly have to take a pay cut to remain in Chicago. His agents reportedly submitted a contract offer to the Bears late last week, but there does not seem to have been any significant give-and-take since that time.

At least one other team is known to have at least mild interest in signing the eight-time Pro Bowl selection: the Dallas Cowboys.

Bushrod and Bennett would be perfect.

Definitely not perfect, but a step in the right direction. What's the deal on Sam Baker? Did he sign somewhere yet or just no interest?

If they can add Bennett, one of Bushrod or Baker, AND Moore, its a hell of a job. Bennett plus one of those 3 is solid.

If the Bears get Bushrod and Moore, it probably means they aren't drafting OL, at least not early enough for it to matter. I'm thinking WR goes WAY up on the board along with depth on defense being a priority.

Again, Bushrod was worse than Webb last season.

Didn't PFF have Bushrod at like +1.5 and Webb at -1??? That would mean Bushrod was better than Webb last season according to them.

6. Jermon Bushrod

2012 Grade: +1.5

2012 Snaps: 1,130

Summary: Season 2012 was not the year for Bushrod, or the Saints, that 2011 was. A year removed from being among our Top 15 tackles, Bushrod got off to a slow start and, after a midseason resurgence, didn’t finish the season well either. For a player whose greatest weakness in his tenure as a starter has been consistency that isn’t a good thing and he didn’t grade positively after the Saints’ Week 11 victory in Oakland.

To his credit, though, Bushrod has made big and clear strides from some of the abject performances that were common place in his first two seasons as a starter for the Saints in 2009 and 2010. Investing Pro Bowl money in Bushrod would be an unwise risk to take, but at the right price Bushrod is a serviceable starter. Serviceable if you either accept his inconsistencies or have the right leadership and coaching staff around him to iron out those letdown games that seem to come along at least once a month.

J'Marcus Webb was -0.8

I'll take him. I thought I read he was good in 2011. Thanks for finding that. Really helps ease my mind a little. He didn't have many penalties and only gave up 4 sacks. If he can cut down on the pressures, he'll be above league average.

Could be getting him much cheaper because of an off year. I'd be really happy about Bennett, Bushrod and Moore.

I do want to see Urlacher back assuming it's on the Bears terms.

Also, as I recall, didn't Emery pay attention to advanced stats, even mentioning PFF by name in one of the press conferences? Not that it's his sole evaluation tool, but still.

Yep Emery does use PFF. Bushrod isn't an All Pro by any means, but I want an upgrade over Webb. We won't be able to find a LT in the draft potentially better then him unless Lane Johnson drops to 20 somehow.
