Free agent DE Turk McBride to visit Bears on Tuesday.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/01/01/free-agent-edge-defenders/

Bears sign him to a one year deal.

Bye Izzy. And McBride is not that good.

McBride as backup, Mcclellan starter?

Sadly I doubt Shea can be much of a starter in the NFL. Unless he develops a lot of strength and bulk, he's basically a speed rusher limited to passing downs and a 3rd DE role on the roster, which is why I have and will still criticize him being chosen in the first round.

Yeah yeah, I know. You've hated that pick since before he played a down. But I'd certainly think that Emery would want his first 1st round pick to a starter at some point.

Doesn't matter if Shea ever starts if he is a high volume sack artist. Coming off the bench only for passing downs means he still plays at least half the defensive snaps. If he can get u 10 sacks a year, its a solid pick.

"@seankjensen: Signing of Turk McBride doesn't diminish chance of Israel Idonije returning to the #Bears"

Ok, so we still need a nickelback, 2 LBs, and at least 1 Guard with a limited amount of cap space.

Hopefully some of that will be addressed via the draft, and I'm still waiting to see if they restructure Hester. He's getting paid an awful lot to just be a returner.

Yeah no doubt the draft will give us some of those players, but to rely on rookies to anchor some of those spots is risky business. What sucks is the Hardin pick and E-Rod pick last year didn't shore up any of the need positions.

Yeah, well who knew that safety would suddenly become a position of relative strength. I still have some hope that Hardin can be decent.

actually, i heard moon mullin talking to bernsy and rozner today about the very real possibility of shea becoming a Rosie COlvin-type SAM linebacker.

My deal is he was terrible first round pick as a DE for a 4-3 team with Chandler Jones and Mercilus still on the board. He was a clear reach and none of the scouts saw him as having elite pro bowl potential as an edge rusher in a 4-3 defense. He's undersized and out of position. I'd love to be wrong and see him develop over time into a full time starter but that's highly unlikely and would still violate Emery's mantra in 2012 of drafting 'immediate impact' players. Oh and if you wanted a LB, the top rated LB was still on the board in Hightower.

The fact that there's still an active debate about moving him back as a LB and changing positions after 1 season is indicative of what a reach he was.

Bears offered 1 year deal to Captain Munnerlyn from Carolina. Panthers just signed DJ Moore so apparently the Bears are going after their version of DJ Moore.

I like him at the nickel.

Reports that the Bears offered Urlacher a 1-year $2MM deal. That is an insult, if true. They obviously didn't want him back which is fine, but they should have just been up front with him about it.

He wanted 5.5 which is what Ray Lewis got this year.

Is it really that big of an insult? That's probably his fair/open market value, especially with quite a few decent LB still available in FA.
