I didn't see terms anywhere -- what were the details?

07.35 SIGNING! And just like that we have our first signing in the Friday sunshine. Jeff Dickerson of ESPN is reporting that Nick Roach has signed a deal with the Oakland Raiders believed to be in the region of 3-4 years at around $1m per annum. It’s a nice move for an Oakland team that is trying to fill out it’s roster with value signings as opposed to big names, with Roach capable of playing the strongside or middle linebacker roles. He was on the field for 710 snaps last year and earned a -2.5 grade.

Yeah, that doesn't seem right at all. From NFL.com....

The Raiders haven't confirmed the deal, but Dickerson reported the team offered Roach a contract in the neighborhood of $3 million to $4 million a season over three to four years.

PFF must've misread.

Yeah I read that, I'm not too optimistic with the draft last year. I'm hopeful for this year but if he whiffs again we'll be rebuilding for the next few years

again, if cutler is the quarterback, and i believe he will be, there will be no rebuilding. there will be retooling a defense with a few young guys up front that have either played well or still can be considered to have potential. i think cutting peppers after this season is a must. shea has got to prove himself worthy of starting this year and wootton has got to continue to develop as he did this past year. i believe something long-term will be worked out with melton at a reasonable rate, and paea will play next to him for years. the safety position is locked up with wright and conte, although i suspect that hardin will make a strong push and i still love his size and speed. jennings will probably be extended. re-sign urlacher for a couple years for 6 mil with 3 mil guaranteed and get a middle linebacker in this draft, let him play sam this upcoming season.

but the offense should be carrying us now that we're retooling on the defensive side.

yea. i still like hardin a lot. and evan rodriguez needs to see more balls thrown his way. i expect shea to be a pretty good player. and then there's alshon of course. I have a hard time calling last year's draft a failure after one year.

and, yeah, the offense needs to start carrying more of the load while we try to get younger on defense over the next couple of years.

Bowman returned on a one year deal.

Friend just sent me an email saying Bowman resigned. For some reason I thought he meant Stan Bowman resigned from the Blackhawks and I had a bit of a panic attack. I checked the news and felt a lot better when I realized he meant that Zack Bowman re-signed with the Bears.

Bowman was very good on special teams last year and looked decent outside at cb in a pinch in the Seattle game. Draft a nickel and there is little drop off at db.

Yeah, I saw the $3-$4 million/year this morning. No way the Bears should pay that for Roach.

I always thought Bowman got a bit of a raw deal after being in something of a slump. There's no doubt that he played horribly in the games leading up to his demotion and deserved it. I think he played well enough prior to that slump to be a starter in the league and am happy to see him stick with the Bears. Like you said, he played well on special teams and I think he can fill in adequately on the outside if an injury forces him on to the field.

Damn, Willie Colon signed with the Jets for 1 year and 1.2 mill. That would have been a nice pickup. Hopefully we get someone else on that kind of deal.

He's always injured and terrible in pass protection. I'd rather just draft an OG.

To me, right now, we still need 2 OG's. I guess Carimi could easily wind up as one of them. But if he winds up at RT, that puts Webb as a swing tackle, and leaves us needing both guards, unless we expect Brown to handle one of them. We need 2 starting LB's, depth at CB, DE, and DT right now on defense. Plus, a speedy WR, and a backup QB. Its a lot of holes to fill, with 6-7 mill to spend. Especially since part of that goes to draft picks. I'm really hopeful we get an extension and/or restructure done, because we're not deep at all anywhere. Especially with an aging D. Personally, with price tags dropping, I really hope we get a couple of starters filled thru FA still.

Saw a post on reddit that Urlacher is asking for $11mil over 2 years. If that's true, bye Brian.

Not necessarily. Every other team has laughed their asses off if thats true as well. If he wants to retire though, its a good strategy for him to stick to that.

That's actually the exact contract I expected him to get before I saw what players were actually signing for. There's been a few big time deals, but they've been given out by teams who need to spend that type of money to get good players (Miami, Cleveland, Tennessee). So, I'd expect Urlacher's demands to come down a little. That being said, I'd be fine with him earning up to 11Mil in 2 years if it is an incentive laden contract. I'd probably even be willing to do 2/11 provided he gets no more than 3.5-4.5 this year with plans to cut/restructure/retire after this season.

How will the Bears vote on the crown-of-the-helmet rule proposal that would prohibit ball carriers from lowering their head and making contact with defenders outside the tackle box?

(General manager) Phil (Emery) and (coach) Marc (Trestman) and (team President) Ted Phillips and I talked about the crown-of-the-helmet rule. We like the spirit of the rule. I would like to talk to them one more time before I say how I'll vote. But anything that promotes player safety, I'm generally in favor of.

As of this morn, per Sean Jense, the Bears have $5.45mil cap space.

Packers have $19.8mil

Lions $7.5mil

Vikes $6.65 mil

Packers are probably hoarding cap space for when they need to sign Rodgers, Raji, and Matthews, right?

And it's just a reminder of how great it can be when you can draft really well.

Yeah, ultimately you'd much rather spend on your own guys instead of free agents.
