I think Forte is a zone scheme RB too. He's best when he can make 1 read, 1 cut and get up the field. Instead of the current scheme that requires him to hit the line and run thru a designed hole inside.

Good point. If Dennison were to bring the same zone scheme to Chicago, though, the Bears likely would be able to move away from Forte once it became financially worth it to do so. Other than Portis, I'm not sure Shanahan has ever had a "great" back, but he always has a really good run game. And while I think Arian is a talented back, he's not nearly as good as he's been in Houston.

With that scheme, you can go cheap at RB and still be productive, opening you up to spending more money elsewhere.

like, on the offensive line would be nice.

i really like the style of play the zone blocking scheme lends itself to, and i think the personnel in the skill positions for the bears would flourish in something like it...would definitely need to add a real TE to the roster though...[expletive], they need to do that regardless.

Definitely agree with you.

Anyone else hear anything about the NFL possibly banning cut blocking, that would render zone blocking a lot less effective? I feel like I read something, but it may well may have been from a non legit site like BR.

If theres any truth to that, it'd be the only reason to shy away from the Shanahan/zone blocking, coaching tree. Otherwise I'm game for it.

Yes, the Bears quarterback came up during CBS’ “NFL Today” pregame show today.

Sharpe suggested Lovie Smith should not have been fired and the problem is Cutler.

“Well, from what I'm hearing the GM (Phil Emery) says the offense (is why Smith was fired),” Sharpe said. “You have Jay Cutler. You have running backs that get 1,000 yards. You have wide receivers. But it comes down to, it’s as simple as this, Jay Cutler, I do not believe he's a leader of men. He's a quarterback, not a leader.”

Dan Marino then chimed in and asked Sharpe, “You’re saying he’s a coach killer?”

Sharpe: “Yes.”

Last week on the “Mully & Hanley Show” on WSCR 670-AM, Fox analyst Troy Aikman said he didn’t know if Cutler made the Bears’ job opening appealing to coaches throughout the league, suggesting pretty much the same thing.

“I don’t know that Jay Cutler is regarded favorably around the league,” Aikman said. “I don’t know that he’s a guy who people look at that job and say, ‘Hey this is a great place for me to go coach, I get to work with a really talented quarterback, and do this, and grow, and develop this offense.’ And there’s been some changes in the short time that Jay’s been the quarterback there in Chicago. Is that all because these coordinators aren’t good enough or is there something that’s holding Jay back or holding this offense back? I don’t know, but I will tell you, whether it’s Norv Turner or anyone else, if you’re looking at a situation like Indianapolis, if (Bruce) Arians does leave and that job does become available, it’s a far more advantageous situation than what they would be dealing with in Chicago.”

I can see people saying that coaches don't necessarily want to coach him based on what they've heard people make up throughout the league. But there's no way you can call him a coach killer. Dude has won 27 games in 3 years (out of 36 full games) with no OL. He certainly didn't get Shanahan fired, as the defense gave up 112 points in their last 3 games to take them from 8-5 to 8-8 for basically the 3rd year in a row (7-9 and 9-7 the other years).

Yes, that's a big part of it.

It's the only part of it.

I personally love Jay and consider him a sort of cult hero, but I can see how some people might find him challenging to work with. When he's pissed (and not saying he doesnt have the right to be at times) he can sometimes come off as a dick. As a fan it makes him fun and refreshing, but I understand how some of his coaches or teammates might feel otherwise.

That and not having a lot of good teammates on offense.

How is this not nearly every player/coach in the history of sports ever?

It might be, but for whatever reason I guess Jay comes off that way moreso. I agree there seems to be something of an inexplicable double standard.

I guess the only thing that really matters is what the top 1 or 2 candidates for the job think about it.

But man, that's some incredible nonsense from Aikman. First of all, it doesn't even address the lack of OLine scouting and acqusition that has been taking place in Chicago for years. And secondly, my god YES guys like Mike Tice are not good enough to run an offense in the NFL.

ABTY(not a football insider, but solid enough with baseball to where I think this needs mentioning) says he's heard DeCamillis will be asked back for a second interview.
