Excellent signing. I can't wait to watch this place blow up over the next week or so. I have a feeling Jebadore is gonna drop some mad knowledge.

"He's player who's very versatile. We can work him in a lot of different spots in the lineup," Hoyer said. "Our priority was to get more balance in our lineup from the left side, and David being a switch-hitter helps us in that area."

NEW MARKET INEFFICIENCY: forcing 32 year old players to switch hit whether they like it or not

Wait, does Hoyer really think he just signed a switch hitter? That's concerning. Maybe he just means that Dejesus has some appeal for their neighbors to the East of Wrigley.

Seems like a pretty low risk signing. Nothing to get too excited about, but he does seem to have the ability to be a pretty solid RF at a fairly low price. Based on his contract, he could become a pretty valuable bargaining chip at the trade deadline if the Cubs repeat 2010, 2011 next year.

Ouch... that switch hitter thing is pretty clumsy

I think it's just a regional slang thing. In the 619, switch is just another way of saying "left-handed".

Bruce Levine wrote the article:

Considering the way many in the media butchered quotes we all heard in the press conferences I'm going to hope this is Levine, athough maybe it's just a stumble by Hoyer.

nope. earlier in the article Levine notes that DeJesus hits left-handed.

Good article. As has been discussed, he is similar to Byrd, but Byrd is RH. Any way they eventually become the platoon? Byrd is a .781 OPS vs. LHP and a .750 OPS vs. RHP.

How eventually can it be? Byrd will be gone sometime between tomorrow and next October. Besides, I already read on a Bruce Miles tweet that he'll be the starting RF and specifically not a platoon player.

I wore my David DeJesus Royals shirt as an undershirt today. Had no inkling the Cubs would sign him today. Who wants to help me pay for shirts of other free agents that we'd like to see on the North side?

Can you live with yourself wearing a Cardinals undershirt?

Not saying I am thrilled to have an outfield of Soriano, Byrd and DeJesus, but I have faith Theo/Co. are putting their puzzle together and not randomly giving out contracts like our old regime. (2 year extension for Grabow at 7.5 mill).

I don't think we'll go into 2012 with Soriano and Byrd manning LF and CF.

One of those two is most certainly going to be traded now. I think they'll want BJax in the opening day lineup.

From the Fan Graphs article:

Instead, DeJesus’ “slump” seems to have been a product of his .274 BABIP – the worst of his career. That may not seem low, but DeJesus has a .316 career BABIP. I didn’t watch the Athletics consistently, so I don’t feel comfortable commenting on why DeJesus’ BABIP was depressed last year. Was it a product of bad luck? Was it him not making consistent solid contact? Did injuries play a role? It’s likely a little bit of all three reasons. Regardless, though, it still remains quite likely that he’ll improve in 2012 and have a better overall offensive season.

Works for me! Oakland's park has an insane amount of foul territory, to boot, so hopefully the move to Wrigley will help his numbers.
