and while sveum's answer started out well, he started to fade out at the end and just said random words.

The best part about tearing down Wrigley is that people will stop talking about the challenges of Wrigley Field.

Unable to catch the conference but on Bernateins twitter he says that Sveum makes Robin Ventura sound like Bobcat Goldthwait. Whatever happened to Bobcat?

Wrote and directed World's Greatest Dad starring Robin Williams.

It was not good.

ETA: Robin Williams shows his penis.

It was not good.

Hello Mr. Sveum, Da Bum, Williston Herald,

I figure I mineaswell ask you,

how do you feel about the 49ers season so far?

They remind me of the 1997 Purdue football team.

I hate the questions about accountability so much...as if the guy were ever going to not give them the answer they're looking for on those.

he didn't really say anything interesting. he said all the things new managers say "play the game the right way, players must be accountable, hustle, sometimes you need to create runs and not rely on the home run, advanced numbers are great but they're only 1 option, etc. etc. etc."

the most interesting part was that it seemed pretty obvious to me sveum wants to overhaul the coaching staff.

As a hitting coach, I would think he'd be most interested in bringing in his own hitting coach, and that's the one position where the guy was likely to return.

I posted an article on the front page where I explored the walk rates for several of the brewers hitters under Sveum. There's certainly good news there as it backs up ElCaballo's anecdotal claim of an emphasis on controlling the zone.

Tim...small quibble with that. Sveum had only been the hitting coach since 09.

He was the bench coach, then the 3rd base coach...then after Macha was hired, he became the hitting coach.

During his intro, Theo said Sveum is comfortable in his own skin. That's certainly the impression I got while listening to him speak. He seemed less nervous than Theo and Jed.

So, who are the coaches he will be meeting with? Who's still under contract?

He basically came off as a bald Ryne Sandberg. Well, on to constructing the team, which is more important.

I think what you meant to say was Ryne Sandberg without the slick-backed hair

well played, mr rabbit.

what is it with old white guys and their boner for ACCOUNTABILITY? i don't understand what they want. like if a guy makes an error he should apologize publicly? or be benched immediately? it all comes off as very condescending/entitled/jealous...like if aramis ramirez doesn't run out a ground ball he needs to be a man about it and tell kaplan he's sorry. because he OWES it to the fans.

I'm pretty sure that's what they want. Apologies and benchings.

I think when the "old school" guys talk about this they mean a player should never dog it or pose for a HR and it ends up being a single, etc. Errors are part of the game and they understand that.

It also means not trying to throw a guy out at home when he is 3/4 of the way there, miss the cutoff man and allow the runner to take second because of the stupid decision to try and throw the runner out at the plate.

Soriano is notorious for this.

Sveum went out of his way to say that stuff like errors, strikeouts, pop ups, etc. happen, and that you can't demand perfect outcomes all the time. It's like any manager position in any industry, harp on the best practices.
