It also means not trying to throw a guy out at home when he is 3/4 of the way there, miss the cutoff man and allow the runner to take second because of the stupid decision to try and throw the runner out at the plate.

Soriano is notorious for this.

I'm willing to bet you can't cite 2 instances of this.

He's also pretty notorious for throwing guys out, so it can't be all bad.

Are you kidding? I can't remember how many times Brenly has said "aww, geez" in the background when Sori has done it over the years. He will then comment about it on the replay and basically call him out for it. Specific instance? Maybe not. Do I remember it happening on more than one occasion? Yes.

what is it with old white guys and their boner for ACCOUNTABILITY? i don't understand what they want. like if a guy makes an error he should apologize publicly? or be benched immediately? it all comes off as very condescending/entitled/jealous...like if aramis ramirez doesn't run out a ground ball he needs to be a man about it and tell kaplan he's sorry. because he OWES it to the fans.

I think when the "old school" guys talk about this they mean a player should never dog it or pose for a HR and it ends up being a single, etc. Errors are part of the game and they understand that.

ok, so what do you want when they do dog it? do you really think you're entitled to an apology?

sorry, but it reeks of "that lazy mexican doesn't DESERVE to be playing major league baseball when there are so many scrappy white guys from georgia or whatever that run out pop ups, and the mexicans are just rubbing it in the faces of those that DESERVE to be playing in the majors by not understanding/appreciating what they have been given."

@Haudricourt Tom

Great story on how unassuming Sveum is: Had to stop at Men's Wearhouse to buy a sports coat for this press conference. Didn't bring one.

I don't know about unassuming, but that is pretty [expletive] funny and a little sad at the same time.

Sounds more like unprepared than unassuming.

Yep.

I wouldn't doubt Theo and Jed just ditched their ties because Sveum didn't have one or something.

Anyway, Sveum will be on with Waddle and Silvy soon.

No, an apology is ridiculous. I do not expect it, nor should any fan. We should, however, expect professionals to be just that, professionals.

We should expect them to know "game situations" and adjust their approach accordingly.

ehhh, i don't know about this. would this story be coming out if sveum were a white guy? i feel liken this just a "lol look at how the black man doesn't know what to do" sort of thing. very condescending.

It's definitely sad that a guy wouldn't have thought to bring a suit or at least a sport coat for his introductory press conference as manager of a major league baseball team.

A guy bought a sports coat before a press conference?

What's sad about it? Maybe he forgot it at the hotel or something.
