Great story on how unassuming Sveum is: Had to stop at Men's Wearhouse to buy a sports coat for this press conference. Didn't bring one.

I don't know about unassuming, but that is pretty [expletive] funny and a little sad at the same time.

It's neither funny or sad.

It's definitely sad that a guy wouldn't have thought to bring a suit or at least a sport coat for his introductory press conference as manager of a major league baseball team.

I disagree. Whatever he was wearing when he interviewed for the job should be good enough, since it had no effect on Theo and Jed's opinion of whether he could handle the job. How he performs at his job is way more important than how he looks.

what is it with old white guys and their boner for ACCOUNTABILITY? i don't understand what they want. like if a guy makes an error he should apologize publicly? or be benched immediately? it all comes off as very condescending/entitled/jealous...like if aramis ramirez doesn't run out a ground ball he needs to be a man about it and tell kaplan he's sorry. because he OWES it to the fans.

I'm not sure what they're saying/thinking, but I take it to mean if you make a mistake, acknowledge you made one, learn from it and don't make the same mistake again. It's the repeated mistakes that absolutely drive me crazy, whether it's a baseball player or somebody who works for me.

Nonsense. Nobody is debating the importance of his appearance today vs. what he actually does as manager. It, nevertheless, takes a pretty weird person to "forget" (or never have it even occur to him) that he would need a suit for this. Obviously it mattered to somebody since he ended up out there in a sport coat.

Jesus, how can someone even begin to conclude that I'm attempting to criticize the hire or put into question how he'd be as a manager by pointing out how weird that is.

What's sad about it? Maybe he forgot it at the hotel or something.

This whole thing is a dog and pony show for the cameras and mics. That's a pretty [expletive] huge thing to forget in that case.

You are giving this way too much thought and importance.

No, the people arguing about it are. All I did was point out that it's weird.

Post throwaway comment of little consequence.

Argument ensues.

Weird would be if he forgot his pants or something.

I once traveled to Dallas for a week on business and forgot to bring ANY pants (besides the jeans I was wearing).

and he forgot his toothbrush, which really came back to haunt him after that gallon of thick onion gravy he drained in the car on the way to the PC.

Sveum is so poor . . . when he walks down the road, he wears one shoe. And if you ask him if he lost his shoe, he says, "No, I found one."

Lots of strip clubs in Dallas.

Yeah, If you didn't forget your raincoats you're golden then.

Is this a golden shower reference?
