  1. Maybe they're grooming him to try to run for governor in Illinois. He's now the finance chair for the Republican National Committee. And Illinois apparently loves its billionaire governors... Woof
  2. Contreras will be the starting catcher in the playoffs. I think he'll be up before Septermber, too. But, no reason to bring him up now. Let him stay in Iowa for a few months. They'll need him way more in September/October than right now. Montero will be off and on injured all year and not very good overall. By September/October, Contreras will end up being their best option behind the plate.
  3. Just keep him off the field and the stands during the game. I saw a clip of Buehrle's perfect game the other night and the team is dog piling on the field with their green garbage monster mascot thing dancing around like an idiot. Don't want or need that. The above clip is really cool.
  4. Eh, they really just need him to play solid defense this year and hit a little bit. i'm not sure he's going to be able to hit in the majors. Can he still hit for power and not strikeout 35% of the time? They just need hi this year to play good defense (his best skill right now), mostly in the infield, and then get a little lf/Cf as needed. We'll see a lot of late game switches of Baez to 3B, KB to RF. Schwarber isn't going anywhere and I think Soler is about to put it together. He has shown he has power, can walk, and his contact improved. just gotta stay healthy.
  5. No way. A real writer asked him a few questions (tell me what you remember from your debut, favorite memories, thoughts on the fans, etc.) he gave some quotes and then the writer crafted it into that. Using some quotes and then filling in the rest. It's fine for what it is, but what's off putting to me about the players tribune thing is that it's supposed to be straight from the player. It's not really that at all.
  6. It's almost difficult to believe he wrote it. There is no way he wrote that. But a nice enough read. I hope he does well in New York.
  7. WGN is set to announce that Brenly is gone.
  8. Mark Grace taking a leave of abscence from the Diamondbacks booth. Says he needs "personal assistance." Don't care much for him as a broadcaster, but hope he can get his life together. http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2012/08/24/mark-grace-taking-leave-of-absence.html?ana=RSS&s=article_search&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+bizj_phoenix+%28Phoenix+Business+Journal%29
  9. Neal Cotts is currently in AAA with the Rangers. I hope he can get back to the big leagues.
  10. I don't know man, watching Jose Nieves mature was a blast.
  11. I'm also skeptical of Jackson. Hopefully both can have a relaly good 2 months. Not sure either will be around long term.
  12. No, but when a team has road trips you can put in football games/concerts because you have time to get the field ready again. The point I'm trying to make here is pretty simple. If the Cubs are forced to play their 81 "home" games away from Wrigley Field. I can't imagine all 81 being at the cell. It's far more realistic that Miller Park would get at least a few homestands. There is nothing feasible about scheduling 162 games in one ballpark, especially if you have to consider rain delays and potential make ups. Additionally, I'm sure the Cubs would want to target their large fan base in Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin. And with no red line running to the cell next year... this would pose a real problem if the cubs are going to be away from wrigley as soon as next season.
  13. I'm not sure the playing surface could handle that. Do baseball games really put that much of a stress on baseball fields? If you take into account batting practice and additional drills, absolutely. Teams re-sod all of the time, and that includes 7-10 day stretches over the summer of road trips. You're playing with fire if you're giving yourself 7 months of games every single day with no back-up plan incase resodding needs to take place. If the Cubs had to play 81 games away from Wrigley Field, I'm not convinced every single one could be at the cell. I would think a 75/25 (or whatever) split between the Cell and Miller Park is more realistic.
  14. I'm not sure the playing surface could handle that.
  15. The guy has the next 50 years of his life to sit around and not be a professional baseball player. His window to pitch at the professional level (and yes that includes extended spring training and the minors) is closing. Why the hell wouldn't he do this? Some of you are so bitter and dense. He has clearly moved on from his time as a Cub. Why can't you?
  16. How has capacity not changed from last year? The bleacher patio thing in right took out seats (I think?), and they've removed entire rows in the 200 level for handicapped seating.
  17. Landed tickets for 4 bucks on Sunday. IF they're gonna suck, it might as well be cheap.
  18. We know he swings at everything... apparently including police officers.
  19. Eh, I had no issue with giving him a chance to complete the game. It wouldn't have been an issue really if Castro could make a routine throw or LaHair had a little Pena in him (it was a very tough hop for LaHair - no real blame there).
  20. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BzzYdTq89d0/T3O7V4Cx8lI/AAAAAAAABmM/3rC_eFmL67c/s1600/Wrigley_Video_Board.jpg
  21. good lord that's ugly.
  22. Disagreed. He's pretty awful at his job. He always, always covers his lack of knowledge with cliche, meaningless sentences. Like his season preview of Cubs catchers. •Welington Castillo: The 24-year-old has big-time power and can throw with the best of them, but the Cubs are not sure of his pitch-calling ability. Castillo called for a slider from Justin Berg in a 2010 game and Giants outfielder Pat Burrell hit a game-changing home run in San Francisco. After that game the previous front office soured on Castillo. He has the tools but maybe not the tool box. What does that tell me? You don't know a damn thing about the kid, so you'll throw some BS defensive cliche and an irrelevant story from a game two years ago. He's a total fraud, like most of his counterparts in this city. It will only get worse as Theo/Co continue to do things their way. Love these idiotic rays beat writers who don't understand why the team they cover is so good. It will be the same here when Theo turns it around. Do yourself a favor and ignore the mainstream media. Amateurs do a better job covering it, and with twitter any "breaking news" is fully out there within minutes.
  23. I liked The Extra 2%. a very enjoyable read.
  24. The renovated Cell is much nicer than it used to be. Still has lots of issues, but I enjoy watching a few games a year there. Old Yankee Stadium was a mess. That upper deck was scary.
  25. Kosuke to the White Sox. one year, one mil.
