  1. Ah, the age-old story of how a rabbit slayed the worlds greatest monster.
  2. It's a bunch of guys who do the blog for fun. They photoshopped the photo from the Cubs convention and tried to give everyone a better understanding of what it will look like. I'm sure the Cubs will release official renderings as soon as everything is finalized. I think it adds a little more perspective than the MC Escher drawing that Wally gave us.
  3. The good folks over at http://www.thewrigleyblog.com have a new rendering up. I encourage you to visit their site and give them a few hits. There is an additional picture on the site. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IEpM-XxWlqA/TymWiKNpNDI/AAAAAAAABi0/hYwpfDB8-1o/s1600/Budweiser_Patio.jpg
  4. Not a "killer" contract, but I'd argue buying out Garbow's arbitration epitomized everything that was wrong with Hendry's approach to running a team. 100% asinine decision.
  5. Eh, they have a right to be annoyed but the fans will stay on board. Houston has drawn very well (with the exception of last year) since moving in to the new park. I hope they don't change their name.
  6. That article is pretty pointless. Pure speculation. I'm not saying that stuff won't happen, but the guy is just blowing hot air because articles like that = readers. Is this really breaking news that the Cubs are going to eventually increase signage at Wrigley? It's the standard in professional (and collegiate) sports and the Cubs now have a front office that is cognizant of how to properly run a business. The Cubs became especially aggressive in increasing revenue streams once the Ricketts family took over. Why the hell would they stop now?
  7. There's thousands of seats in the stadium that either can't see those other boards, can't see them very well, or can't see them without looking completely away from field action. Getting that information in one spot within the field of vision of the field of play(I have no idea how else to say that) is very useful. Also, the fact that the rendering shows some pitch count stats and such doesn't mean the board is going to be showing those stats 100% of the time. There's plenty of information that can go up there that there was no room for before in any practical sense. I agree with both of you, and I hope that they can do a little more than just pitch speed/count. There is a lot of potential to pull this off in a good way that increases revenue and information. However, I am a little reluctant to believe they will maximize this because the side LED panels (1b/3B line) could have been used more effectively and aren't. Perhaps new management will do more than the bare minimum.
  8. I like what they are doing in the corner. As I mentioned earlier, that right field section has become a mess since the bleacher expansion. As for the LED board, be a fan of it because it will increase revenue. 99% of why it is there is to put up a big Budweiser sign (or more between innings). No one needs to see a picture of Ryan Dempster. The "stats" they add will likely be mostly meaningless (the side boards already have pitch count and the upper boards have pitch speed). I'm all for making stats more readily available, but this will be very disappointing in that capacity. It's there for more signage, more revenue and that's a good thing. It's much nicer than the Toyota sign. One more note, put me in the group that has no desire to add a massive jumbotron to the ballpark. Because it is overwhelmingly obvious that a jumbotron does not provide any worthwhile video, I think they will be able to increase revenue in less obnoxious ways. Increasing smart phone access (and creating video/advertising revenue streams) is an important next road to explore.
  9. That right field corner has been a mess since the bleacher expansion. I really like the idea of a party patio area out there. The LED Board... I'll reserve judgement until I see how they plan on pulling it off.
  10. Title is a little misleading. This could easily be a Ribbon 70-foot wide LED board like on the 1b/3b facade. They cant put up a massive video board and block all the rooftop views over there.
  11. Yum Yum Donuts was across the street from the mcdonalds....and delicious.
  12. I think what you meant to say was Ryne Sandberg without the slick-backed hair well played, mr rabbit.
  13. nah, ryno has the slick backed hair
  14. I assume he meant when they introduce the entire team... not as in he is starting opening day.
  15. And it keeps getting better http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2011/10/insanely_ugly_animatronic_home.php
  16. jesus. If Koyie was solid I guess Geo will be winning a unanimous gold glove. He went on to rip Geo's D
  17. We are? My opinion. Beane is already being ruled out, doubt Freidman will go anywhere and if he does he'll go to Houston, and I think Epstein is just allowing the Cubs speculation to exist as leverage. I think it's Hahn, with DiPoto having a small chance. If no Theo/Beane/Andrew, go with Cherrington.
  18. Levine wrote that Koyie is solid in the field (simply not true), and Soto struggled from a low BA. Koyie was a B. Soto was a C-. http://espn.go.com/chicago/polls?id=7033211 I'm as concerned as anyone with the large drop in LD% for Soto this year. But he wasn't awful, and he has done this before. don't see why a return to 2010/08 numbers is out of the question. Levine is a total hack and baseball fans, by and large, are complete morons. What else is new?
  19. Because if he won a world series in Chicago he'd be the best GM in the history of MLB.. and probably all of American sports. Ever. I went to Boston and won it. I went to Chicago and won it. You can't top that.
  20. What exactly is Cashner wearing.
  21. KerryWood Kerry Wood Here are your 2011 Rookies. Might have to make them wear them again tonight! yfrog.com/mej3rxj http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg806/scaled.php?tn=0&server=806&filename=j3rx.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640
  22. Except when someone is batting. Or pitching. Or fielding. Or replays. Or mound visits. I don't see how it being a hat logo makes it any less absurd. It's horribly lame logo. Hat or not hat.
  23. All I ask is that you get someones attention form the front office and ask them to re-paint the SRO yellow line. Hell, I'll do it if they buy the paint.
  24. Because there's nothing idiotic about questioning his "concentration levels" and "day-to-day energy." Awful.
  25. I have video if anyone is interested yessir
