  1. My all-time favorite Pat and Ron call. August 7, 2001. Need I say more? I haven't posted much on NSBB lately, but John Davis used to post these clips. (I think his name was John Davis. From Evanston). So I credit him with much of my early 2000 cubs mp3's. My man BCVM has done fine work since.
  2. I think a Len + Glanville would be a really smart broadcast. I'd really enjoy that. Odds are it goes to Grace, Sutcliffe or Moreland (saying Brenly leaves). You could make the case that Sarge would get a look (he's doing TV for the Phillies). I want Glanville. edit: I half-jokingly tweeted Doug to see if he would have any interest in the gig. His reponse. Doug Glanville @RonanOShea Ronan I figured after my three off key performances for the 7th inning stretch, no Chicago business would want me :)
  3. Does anyone have his full stats? Curious to see his BA/OBP and how many walks he drew. You'd think a guy as patient as Murton might struggle to break a record like this. How his stats were not a part of this article is beyond me.
  4. Because Wrigley Field needs a jumbotron?
  5. Per Carrie Muskat CarrieMuskat #cubs fire hitting coach Von Joshua post-game Sunday. He could stay in system. GM says there wasn't enough improvement to keep Joshua
  6. Judd is an atrocious announcer. His voice is awful, he doesn't know how to do play-by-play and it's so clear the only (only) reason he has the job is because of his last name. Wish WGN would man up and hire a young, up and coming broadcaster who understands the sport and has the skills to be a professional broadcaster. There is a wonderful play by play announcer in Kane County who deserves the break, and is 10x the broadcaster Judd is.
  7. While I would prefer the team stays in Arizona (the proximity of the teams is much better than Florida), Mesa is a dump and the facilities are weak. I would not be opposed to building a new facility anywhere in the Phoenix area (Mesa or not). I don't see why they would feel any real need to stay in Mesa if another town had a better offer.
  8. I received the best birthday surprise ever this morning. My girlfriend left me a... KOYIE HILL CAKE!! http://twitpic.com/4aa0l
  9. I questioned it at the time, but prior to yesterday, he hadn't pitched in 5 days. He was quick and effective, no harm no foul - plus he needed some work. Lou probably figures with Z going tomorrow and wood/wuertz/gallagher all with plenty of rest, they will be ok without marmol (if the game even gets played).
  10. I still think the Iowa Cubs should play a weekend series at Wrigley. Why not?
  11. He has (at least twice) missed extensive time in the Frontier League due to visa problems (he lives in Canada). Here are Tanner's full stats http://howesportsdata.com/howesportsdata/stats/baseball/career/released/Watson,TannerJames.txt
  12. I announced (radio) for the RiverHawks last summer and saw a lot of Tanner. He is good, but I doubt much will become of him. To be successful in the Frontier League, all you need to do is have one pitch with movement. He was the cream of the crop in the Frontier League, but the talent level is pathetic. He is one of the nicest guys I have met and was a great interview. I wish him the best of luck! Our closer, Mike Marksbury, was absouletly dominant for the 'Hawks. 20 1/3 innings, 32k's, 10 bbs. He was picked up by Milwaukee during the FL All Star Break and got shelled at Brevard County (Florida State League). http://howesportsdata.com/howesportsdata/stats/baseball/career/independent/Marksbury,Mike.txt
  13. NSBBers, I am a student reporter at Indiana University. HUGE win tonight over Purdue. Here's the first of many post game stories. Go Hoosiers! http://www.thepalestra.com/player.php?id=8423
  14. Miami is fully capable of supporting a major league baseball team. What they need is a new ballpark -- with a retractable roof. It rains every day there in the summer, who wants to drive 2 hours to a football stadium, sit in the rain and watch a team? Get a new ballpark, and things will get better. As for Las Vegas. The fastest growing city in the U.S. needs a baseball team. There is no way they would not make money and draw well.
  15. And that would be Hendry's way of saying, we are not getting into a bidding war for him. We'll spend money on other players this offseason. Does Hendry want ARod? (I dont see why not). He knows the Cubs will not put out enough money to get him. Hey Jimbo, how about moving him back to shortstop? You don't have an all-star there.
  16. Um, yes? That's not her job. She's not a journalist, she's a PR puppet. It's no different on any other team website, anywhere. And it would be better if she just avoided the question entirely, rather than make up lies that make people look silly. You can sit there and say that BigbadB would be an excellent choice for the Cubs organization at SS going into 2008, but it doesn't make it true. And the more you write goofy stories like that, the less likely anyone will believe you later. Oh, by the way....... Neifi Saved Us. :D I don't disagree with any of that. Personally, I'm not a fan of her writing. I just dont understand why anyone goes to cubs.com looking for any reputible writing. She will never write what she really thinks, because she would lose her job if she did. It's all fluff, so take it for what it is worth. I did notice that the whitesox and royals both have openings for that job. Anyone interesed? "Ryan Buckvich is FINE."
  17. Um, yes? That's not her job. She's not a journalist, she's a PR puppet. It's no different on any other team website, anywhere.
  18. I don't understand most of the criticism she takes. She works for the Cubs. Do you really expect her to write, "Theriot is a below average hitter who had one good month, so if the Cubs don't get A-Rod than the team is in trouble?" She is not in the position that someone like Bruce is in. As much as anything or anyone else on cubs.com, she has to help that team sell tickets and make money. Everything she writes, like everything on cubs.com will have a positive spin. This is no different than any other team website. Get over it, and get your thoughtful cubs writing from Bruce, the only Cubs writer in town with a clue.
  19. Sir, fantastic stuff. I'm buying you an old style when I get back into Chicago on Thursday.
  20. I'm sure there will be a scattering of hillbilly Cincinnati fans (as usual) but I'm sure the majority will be wearing Cubbie blue (as usual). Reds fans only show up for Opening Day and Bobblehead promotions. Can't wait for this weekend. am i seeing things correctly.. a ufcker on nsbb??
  21. You're from Rockford? Cool, me too. You going? Yes, and Yes I'll be there Friday night. And I spent the summer announcing for the Rockford RiverHawks. It's like a Rockford reunion.
