Make your little jokes now. We will win at least 10 games this season.

It will be a major disappointment if you. Your game against OSU will be very telling.

Yeah, but we get them at home and they always seem to be overrated to me. The follwing week against Arkansas at Jerryworld may be more of an indicator as to how good we really are (or aren't) IMO.

This is from yesterday

Julie Roe Lach, the N.C.A.A.’s vice president for enforcement, made a presentation to the group, which included every men’s basketball coach, football coach and athletic director in the conference. When she opened up the room for discussion, Auburn’s football coach, Gene Chizik, raised his hand first.

He peppered Roe Lach with a flurry of questions about the N.C.A.A.’s investigation into Cam Newton and why the N.C.A.A. had not publicly announced that the investigation was over. Chizik complained that the inquiry’s open-ended nature had hurt Auburn’s recruiting and he followed up at least three times, leading to a testy exchange.

“You’ll know when we’re finished,” Roe Lach told Chizik, according to several coaches who were at the meeting. “And we’re not finished.”

For Chizik to stir the pot, I have to think he believes AU has their bases covered with respect to the Cam investigation.

INDIANAPOLIS--- Louisiana State University committed major violations in its football program, according to findings by the Division I Committee on Infractions. A former assistant football coach was cited for unethical conduct for his role in the recruiting violations at the center of the case.

The investigation began after the university self-reported the violations to the enforcement staff. The committee lauded the university’s compliance staff for its efforts to investigate and uncover the violations.

The committee noted in its report, “The compliance office was proactive, fully investigated and cooperated with the enforcement staff to uncover the full range of the violations.”

Penalties include recruiting restrictions, scholarship reductions and one-year probation for the university. The committee reduced the university penalties due to the compliance staff efforts. The former assistant coach received a one-year show-cause order that limits his athletically related duties. The public report includes additional details.

Well, it sounds like the NCAA found who paid Cam Newton. Sounds like if they can get this person to come forward Auburn is fucked.

Paul Finebaum had the USA Today's Danny Sheridan on as a guest this afternoon, and Sheridan says the NCAA thinks it has found the bag man who helped Auburn pay for Cam Newton. I didn't catch the whole thing and the replay's not up yet, but this is news big enough to post it now and update later.

Most of what I have to go on right now is a series of tweets from Finebaum's Twitter feed. Here are the bullet points:

The NCAA investigation of Auburn ramped up after the Destin incident. Be careful what you wish for, Gene Chizik.

This is a quote from Sheridan: "As I understand it, the NCAA is trying to get an alleged 3rd person or bag man to come forward."

Sheridan reports that the investigation is all about Auburn and not about Mississippi State.

If the NCAA can put it all together, major sanctions will come along with vacation of the national championship and Heisman.

Sheridan closed by reiterating that the NCAA thinks it knows the "third party" who put up the money to pay for Newton's signature.

So the LSU/Will Lyles tapes are in fact old tapes of players who were already in DI or were of no specific players at all. With the sanctions just placed on them this could put them in the repeat violator status too.

2. IMPERMISSIBLE LODGING. [NCAA Bylaw 13.2.1.1-(h)]

During the period April 14-16, 2009, while prospect 1 was on an unofficial visit to the institution, student worker 2 provided him two nights’ lodging at her apartment at no cost.

i'm guessing student worker 2 was really, really ugly and prospect 1 slept on the couch.

Let's note that Sheridan is a Bama grad speaking on the Paul Finebaum show. Sheridan is credible in my eyes, but I'm not sure there is a whole lot of new info here. Sheridan indicated that the investigation could end in 3 to 6 months if the NCAA isn't able to obtain evidence.

This is a direct quote: "They're trying to get a third person, allegedly the bag man, to step forward, and if he steps forward, it'll be a bad situation. But I don't know that he will step forward. I don't know if they have any evidence. I don't want you to misquote me." This "third party/bag man" would be someone doing the work so the someone else's fingerprints are not on the transaction. This third party is not a "rogue alumni".

Confusingly, Sheridan later says that "Auburn had nothing to do with this" and that this third party "I won't say was working for a rogue alumni." I don't get what he's hinting at here. If the third party didn't do this with the school's knowledge and wasn't working for a rogue alumni, who is he and why did he get involved? Is he some sort of non-alumni booster?

"The NCAA has on more than one occasion said Auburn has done nothing wrong in the recruitment of Cam Newton. Nothing has changed," Chizik said at SEC Media Days on Thursday.

Chizik didn't say anything particularly interesting. He's maintaining that Auburn is in the clear and will continue to do so unless the NCAA sends AU an offical letter of inquiry.

so many of the coaches in Boise's new Mountain West Conference home complained that the league prohibited the Broncos from wearing all-blue uniforms in their conference home games as a prerequisite for their entry into the league.

Lammmmmmmme.

Wow. Gunner Kiel apparently committed to Indiana of all places. Over Alabama and Oklahoma.

HAHAHA. Awesome! I didn't think he'd want to beat out his brother for the QB job at IU.

I didn't know that Kiel's brother went to IU until last week or so, his interest/commitment makes a lot more sense in light of that fact. Good for IU keeping him away from Norman.

It also doesn't seem that anything's changed with Mizzou's rankings, they get ranked near the back of the Top 25 nearly every year it seems. Adding a DGB or a Pipkins might swing that upwards though.
