Pryor ruled ineligible for the supplemental draft. He'll have to sit out a year before entering next year's draft. Wonder if he tries to play in the CFL.

I wonder if there is anyone in this country not named Pryor who feels bad for him

Seems to me that ESPN is trying to bring about the end of the Big 12. They may get their wish pretty quickly.

Huh?

Have you not been following the Longhorn Network saga?

I knew about the drama over the high school games, didn't realize that was still going on.

I hope Texas is equipped to be an independent.

I know that's what they want, but I think it is a huge gamble for them. Of course, I hope they fall flat on their face. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain independence for the long term like Notre Dame has.

They will still look to go to the Big 10 or PAC 12, with the PAC 12 being the more likely suitor based on the ESPN contract.

It's a little odd how seriously a lot of aTm fans are taking this expansion hearsay(it can't even be considered rumor at this point).

It may just be grandstanding, but both have basically said The Longhorn Network makes that a non-starter. I guess it's possible it doesn't turn out to be the money-maker they were hoping for, but regardless they'd have to fall in line in order to fit into a new conference, especially because at the point of the Big 12 dissolving, Texas would need a them more than they need Texas.

Texas football could easily be independent right now, but they aren't going to find anyone to take the rest of their sports - at least no league good enough for them. ND was fortunate enough to get the Big East to take most of their other sports and that's the #1 reason by far they've been able to maintain independence, even more than NBC.

I highly doubt that. Texas wants to be independent and the Big 12 cratering will be their excuse to do it.

Why is it only hearsay? We have a standing offer from the SEC. Whether or not you want to believe it, that fact is true. Texas & ESPN are pushing the boundaries of the LHN pact that the rest of the conference agreed to. Why should we stand there and let Texas run over us when we can flip them the bird and head to a better conference? Look at the quotes from our president and AD in the past week or so. Do you think they're just blowing smoke? If ESPN & Texas insist on showing a conference game and, more importantly, Texas HS football games A&M will be gone as soon as possible, probably the 2013 season.

ADs talking about keeping their options open is not the same as conference commissioners talking about expansion, which is what happened last year when expansion actually took place. Also, facts are things that can be verified.

I don't doubt aTm's interest in the SEC, or even that the SEC would take aTm and maybe a couple more schools. The problem is that posturing over the LHN is not the same as being on the brink of conference movement, but there's a strange movement among quite a few aTm fans that these events have signed, sealed, and delivered them to the SEC.

Also, of no relevance whatsoever, I stumbled upon this quote from aTm's AD:

If prospective-student athletes don’t have at least a 1300 SAT or are in the top 10% of their class, they’re not getting into Texas A&M.

I don't know if the grading scale would fall in line but a 1300/2400 = 867 on a 1600 point scale which even Derrick Rose could probably manage.

The AD and president aren't going to come out in the press and say "If the LHN show HS games we are leaving for the SEC." But that's what is going to happen. I'd be willing to bet on that.

Yeah, I laughed out loud when I saw that quote. Not sure what $Bill was smoking that day.

I'm sure they would, but they aren't the drivers of that decision. That's my point. The SEC isn't going to just say "oh, aTm's pissed off, let's let them in" and be a 13 team conference, or "oh, aTm's pissed off, we should let them in and then find another team or 3 so the divisions are equal".

I had no idea the scale had changed. That almost makes it more confusing if the quote is interpreted "as long as they score above 'functionally stupid' OR top 10% of their class, whichever comes first".

It went to 2400 when they added the writing portion 5 or 6 years ago. But looking up the comparitve scores now, I guess a 1300 slots in around 25th percentile which would eliminate a lot of D1 athletes. (Keeping in mind that those percentiles would only apply to those who take it, i.e. college bound students, not the general high school population) Edited by SouthSideRyan

From a couple of weeks ago:

The talk of expansion has died down since last summer, when Oklahoma president David Boren said the SEC offered his school and Texas A&M spots in the league. Slive doesn't dismiss the possibility of future expansion but said nothing is in the works.

"As we speak right now, there isn't really anything going on," he said. Then he repeated, "As we speak."

He had previously said the SEC wouldn't make such a move unless there was a "significant shift in the conference paradigm." Nebraska joined the former Big Ten, while Colorado and Utah moved to the Pac-12.

"I don't think (that) constituted a paradigm shift as I was defining them in my mind when I said it," Slive said. "Obviously I think both of those leagues have helped themselves by what they've done. We will be always thinking about what is it that the SEC can or should do to make itself stronger. Whether or not that involves expansion, we'll just have to wait and see."
