Cub trolls I'm sure will get a chuckle or two out of this today, but when they realize it will make us a better team going forward, they really shouildn't.

The Cardinals now look a million times better on paper without Pujols in the lineup.

Does the cash they saved outweigh his absence?

wait, does anybody remember that creepy little cards fan who used to post vids of himself raging on youtube a few years ago? the kid who went on a rant about aaron miles signing with the cubs.

i completely forgot about that kid, and now i really want to see if he's still around.

Didn't somebody from here get his phone number, and call him and just play a clip of an Aramis walk off against the Cards and then he quit doing videos.

yes, and it was [expletive] hilarious

If the Cards had signed him to a fair market extension (or even close) a year or two ago, this wouldn't be happening. Pujols gave the Cards 11 years of the best production most of us have ever seen for well below what he was worth and led them to 2 World Series titles and a bunch of playoff appearances. He was a charitable citizen and model teammate. He owed the team and the city of St. Louis absolutely nothing.

Cards fans painting him as a scumbag now is absolutely ridiculous.

But it's funny as hell at the same time.

i agree.

off topic, xzero, but yr userpic i guess makes you a pj fan... well played. i've seen them 14 times and spent way too much money doing so.

It'll make them a better team in 4-5 years, but it sure as hell doesn't make them better now.

And now Fielder and Boras are doing a happy dance. I have to think Boras will command at least 175-200M for Prince if Albert got a quarter of a billion.

they can command all they want, nobody is giving him that.

Nobody said anything about soon. I was asking a question because I didn't know. I'd love for it to be sooner rather than later, because this Comcast deal is stupid and I'm not sure why the Cubs entered into it in the first place.

I believe the WGN portion of the deal is what really sucks. And it wasn't clear at the time how successful things like YES Network would be.

Yeah, the Comcast deal isn't the horrible part right now; it's the remaining WGN games that aren't making anywhere near what they should. I can't remember the exact dates, but I want to say their current TV deals are done by or after 2016.

I just wanna get games off WCIU. Only games I can't watch.

No one thought 250 or 260 would be given to Albert and it happened.

It doesn't make them better at any point. It may allow them to more easily try and get better, but nothing about him leaving makes them better.

If their payroll stays the same, then Pujols would've more or less used up their resources. What's not clear is if they'll be raising the payroll after 8 playoff home games.

My buddy's argument is that they'll now have the money to take care of Wainwright.

DeWitt has said the Cards are not raising payroll due to the playoff revenue.

After the last title they cut payroll...wouldn't surprise me at all to see them take that $$ Pujols saved them to the bank.

That contract would have turned into an albatross for St. Louis. Put it this way, not signing him to a competitive offer is in their long term best interests.

Kurjian just said that Albert has been upset with the Cards for about 2-3 years. Lots of rumblings about Albert not feeling the love from the organization and them not taking care of this sooner. The Cardinals let it go too far and now it is too late.

He was upset because the Cards didn't want to give him 10yrs 250-275m.

You mean his now established market worth?

If the Cards would have offered Puhols an 8/180 deal when Mark Tiexeira signed his contract with the Yankees, I bet he would have taken it. They decided to let him keep playing at a discount. They made their business decision. Puhols just made his.

Financial flexibility does not automatically make any team better.

Yeah it's undeniable that the Cards made their bed here. The media has been talking the last three years about "whether now is the time to try to lock up Pujols," and the team didn't do it. I guess we don't know for sure, but there were no reported offers until the one last spring.

Wait, you mean they won't automatically get one of the best hitters ever again, at a huge discount? Well that's not fair.
