Sign Fielder NOW!!

Don't hold your breath. Even if the Cubs sign Prince, Boras is going to push for a protracted bidding war.

Agreed....I'll predict at least one "mystery" team gets involved as well.

I don't know whether or not we'll sign Prince or not, but if he leaves Milwaukee. our division just came back to the pack a TON. A couple of decent moves and we've got a VERY legit chance to win it.

If I were a Cardinals fan, I'd be so depressed right now I wouldn't know which of my championship DVDs to pop in.

Exactly, this would have been sooooo much better had they not lucked their way into 2 WS in the past 6 years.

But his friend said he wants to play for the Cubs.

I'll be pissed if the Cards sign Fielder.

They won't.

Yep. They'll do something stupid and lock up Molina for 5 years and 60 mil or something and insist that Fat Matt Adams will hit at the MLB level (he won't.)

If the Cards had signed him to a fair market extension (or even close) a year or two ago, this wouldn't be happening. Pujols gave the Cards 11 years of the best production most of us have ever seen for well below what he was worth and led them to 2 World Series titles and a bunch of playoff appearances. He was a charitable citizen and model teammate. He owed the team and the city of St. Louis absolutely nothing.

Cards fans painting him as a scumbag now is absolutely ridiculous.

But it's funny as hell at the same time.

yep, all of this.

I was pretty convinced Pujols wasn't giving St. Louis another discount. The guy is finally getting the money he's been deserving for years.

He was an incredible bargain, but the buyout wasn't a discount. I think at the time it was the largest contract ever for a third-year player and of course his choice to sign for a $100M or go through arbitration and hit FA earlier.

Very true. I'm not mad at him at all. The Angels offered him like 30 million more than the Cardinals would. The end.

This is not new.

Also, Fielder is going to be a long ass process of made up and real bids and teams being used to drive each other up. Par for the course with Boras.

Who was a friend of a friend of a distant relative. Just amazing that the [expletive] Marlins are going this hard after everyone and we can't do [expletive]!

You have no idea what we are or aren't doing.

Theo plays things close to the vest. It's in the Marlins best interest to be as loud as possible about everything they're doing to get people interested in the team. We pretty much heard every single step of the Marlins signings and pursuits. Not near as much with the Angels.

I would think this makes Kendry Morales a non tender candidate. If so, he just moved up quite a bit on my list of potential 1B. I'm afraid Fielder is going to get 200 mill now personally. and as long as it's not from the Brewers or Cards, we don't have to sign him to even win the division. it'd be nice and it IS what I want, but if the reports are true we want to go shorter term with him, we may get beat out by the Fish or Mariners.

what would have liked cubs management to do? give pujols a ridiculous 250 million dollar contract? call cj wilson and convince him that guns and his hometown aren't actually attractive to him and that he would prefer chicago?

all 3 of the contracts the marlins have given out have been bad.

You don't think someone would work a trade for Morales before it got to the nontender stage?

he was paid around $3m last year and didn't play, so he's probably going to get about the same amount. he's way too good to not tender for $3m unless you know that he's never really going to come back from that injury. seems to me he'd get tendered and then traded, possibly with some contingencies so that the team acquiring him gives up more if he comes back and tears it up.

You're acting like an hysterical woman.

You have no idea what Theo and Jed are doing and seem to forget the Marlins are out to drum up positive PR, so are likely leaking things left and right and putting their name into everything.

Calm the [expletive] down.
