Archer or McNutt.

Id be surprised if they were wanting starting pitching as the centerpiece.

I'd bet something more like Lee, one of Castillo/Chirinos, and one of Vitters, JJax, or Carpenter.

LB Trade Rumors: 9:54pm: The Cubs and Rays met again to talk about a potential trade that would send Garza to Chicago for prospects, according to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. The Brewers and Rangers have also met with the Rays about Garza, but the Cubs have the strongest current bid, according to Levine. However, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel hears that talks between the Rays and Brewers did not progress (Twitter link).

I know little of the Ray's system, but are they looking for OF prospects with the departure of Crawford imminent? B. Jackson may be off the table, but Golden or Guyer along with McNutt or another pitcher? Pure speculation, of course.

Dempster

Garza

Wells

Silva long man/spot starter

How about we trade Gorz (since we appear to be set on trading him) for prospects and then flip them to TB for Garza (probably add another guy or two on top of that). I'd love to sell high on Colvin and include him as well.

Let Cashner start in the minors and then insert him in the rotation next year, or this year if needed.

Archer or McNutt.

Cubs have said Archer is off limits.

I was responding on who Tampa would want, not who they would get. I think they'll "settle" for maybe Jackson and Lee unless theyre interested in Colvin.

It's Wells minor league history of mediocrity that does him in. While Garza was putting up more than respectable numbers against MAJOR leaguers, Wells was putting up crap against MINOR leaguers. One mediocre year by Garza, and one great year by Wells does not erase multiple years of what they have been respectively in the past.

i remember reading the BP handbook like 3 years ago, and it noted that wells had good peripherals but was tagged with very bad BABIPs for a year or two.

Why on earth would we trade Wells for Garza?

because garza is good and wells isn't?

Haha, I'm glad we settled that.

I want Gil meche or Kyle lohse Instead of garza. I'll trade colvin for them.

you really want kyle lohse at 2/24?

He's doing a thing.

It's a really good thing you have a sense of humor.

It's amazing that 369 minor league innings make people discount 365 solid major league innings.

word on the street the offer on the table is Chirinios and a top level shortstop prospect plus another mid-level

you don't think hendry would give up castro or hak-ju for god sake?

Obviously not Castro, and I don't think he really qualifies as a prospect anymore.

I think Lee is the guy. I'm hoping it's Lake, but it seems obvious it'd be Lee.

Does anyone (Cubs org. included) still view Ryan Flaherty as a SS? Or is he a consensus 2B at this point? Both he and Lake seem like longshots, though. It's probably Lee. Edited by MWV

Good point on Lake, the Rays may have seen in him what Tim's been seeing in him.

My guess is the inclusion of "top" shortstop prospect means you can rule out Lake and Flaherty. Most people wouldn't consider either a top prospect, I wouldn't think.

But it also says "one of" implying that it could be someone other than Lee despite him being the only one who qualifies.

Right, Lee is the most likely though I'd say. If it's Flaherty/Chirinos/Guyer/somebody, I'm fine with the trade. If it's Lee/Chirinos/BJax/somebody, I have no interest at all. It probably won't be either of those and it depends where in the middle it falls.

Lee/Colvin/Chirinos/somebody lesser would be ok to me, but I would think we could get more for Colvin from teams that value his skillset.

For some reason I don't see Colvin being included. I would guess it would be something like Chirinos/Lee/2 guys like Guyer/Dolis/Wallach. Total guess obviously, but I just don't see one of our top 5 or so prospects being included in addition to Lee and Chirinos. I'm a big fan of Garza and think he would be great for the Cubs, but even I wouldn't include BJax, McNutt, or even Vitters.

I only wouldn't want to see Colvin included because I think other teams will rate his skillset higher and give us a better return for him.

What really scared me was that almost immediately it came out that Archer and BJax (I think it was) were not going to be involved. The fact that they felt the need to throw out those names almost immediately makes me concerned they're talking about bigger names than I'd be comfortable with. I could be overeacting, but it concerns me.

I trade Chirinos, Lee, and a mid level prospect for Garza 12 times out of 10. But I'm also among the lowest opinion of both Chrinos and Lee.

If it headlines Chirino and Lee then two other top prospects we can assume our 4 best prospects are not included right? Jackson or even vitters going in this trade would kill me. Okay maybe not vitters but i still think he has plenty of time to bounce back.
